About the iPhone 8 Plus

With Apple celebrating a decade of phone manufacturing you’d be forgiven for wondering if the company is still at the top of their mobile game. But the iPhone 8 series shows that Apple still have plenty left to give. The iPhone 8 Plus is the series’ phablet device, and what a little stunner it is. With plenty of new features, a power upgrade, and loads of sexy styling, who wouldn’t want this phone?

Why should you be dying to get one? That big screen, now with full HD, is a clear selling point. But there’s also tons of power under the hood, and some awesome cameras thrown into the mix as well. It’s not cheap, but then sometimes you need to pay for quality. And if you’re an iOS lover, this is a buying choice you’re not going to regret.

Key Features on the Apple iPhone 8 Plus

This could only be an iPhone. It’s got sleek curved corners, a sexy slim profile, classic Apple styling, and the famous physical home button. The iPhone 8 Plus is a full glass phone, meaning it is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but pure sexiness makes up for that. This isn’t a phone that you’re going to be sliding into the pocket of your skinny jeans though, and you won’t be using it one handed either.

Aside from those good looks, the iPhone 8 Plus packs plenty of punch. There’s tons of power, a decent amount of RAM, not to mention stellar cameras and an all new full HD screen as well. And, of course, a few special features thrown in for good measure.

This is certainly a premium product, and the 8 Plus feels sturdy and high quality in the hand, and you’ll be paying a pretty penny too. But you’re definitely getting what you’re paying for with this top end phablet.

Performance Specs

Let’s turn first to performance, and we’re expecting a lot here. Fortunately the 8 Plus does deliver. You’re looking at hexa core processing power here, alongside 3 GB of RAM, and the brand new Apple A11 Bionic chip set. Mix all that together and you’re looking at lightening fast speeds, awesome multi tasking ability, and great responsiveness.

Obviously this is an iOS device, and you’ll be running the new iOS11 out of the box here. That gives you some nice new features, like better storage management, a new file manager system (a first for Apple), and a smarter than ever Siri. Plus you get that added security and stability that a new operating system version always has to offer.

The bottom line here is that you’re getting fantastic performance. Speeds are excellent, there’s no sign of lag even when running multiple processes, and the 8 Plus is very responsive indeed. Even the most demanding user should be more than satisfied here.

That Huge Screen

The display is probably going to be the main selling point for most buyers here. You’re getting a full 5.5 inch screen, which is fantastic. There’s loads of room for typing on screen, as well as surfing, reading, or video watching.

In terms of resolution, you’re getting 1080 x 1920 pixels, which works out to be around 401 PPI. Picture quality is crisp and sharp, and colour reproduction is very good. The fact that this is an Apple full HD Retina display means you get added brightness, and IPS means fantastic viewing angles as well.

As is usually true with iPhones, the display on the 8 Plus is a true pleasure to look at. From HD video to high end gaming, you’re going to love this screen.

That Camera Set

Apple doesn’t disappoint when it comes to cameras either, in fact the 8 Plus has an excellent camera set. At the front you’re getting a 7 MP camera (f/2.2 aperture), which is more than good enough for FaceTime and the odd selfie.

At the rear though you’re getting Apple’s 12 MP dual camera set up made up of a 28 mm f/1.8 aperture lens and a 56 mm f/2.8 aperture lens, to give you added detail and cleaner pics. There’s quad LED flash, along with plenty of features like phase detection autofocus, dual recording and picture taking, HDR, face detection and everything else you’d expect to see.

In short, pictures taken on the 8 Plus are fantastic. Bright, clear, highly detailed (even when zoomed in), you’re going to love the shots that you get here. Even the included camera software is intuitive and easy to use.

And Everything Else…

The iPhone 8 Plus has tons of extra features, but we do need to single a few out. This is a waterproof phone, its IP67 certification meaning it’s all good in water up to a meter in depth for up to thirty minutes.

Though you’re not getting the face detection unlock seen on the higher end iPhone X, you do get a very reliable front mounted fingerprint scanner, giving added security and access to Apple Pay. And this is a fully AR ready phone, which is going to be amazing when Apple releases the full version of their Augmented Reality software.

You’re also getting wireless charging as well (which is why this is a glass build phone as opposed to the more traditional Apple aluminium build). Even without that wireless charging though, a wired connection is going to give you fast charge tech that promises a 50% charge in just thirty minutes.

iPhone 8 Plus Review

The iPhone 8 Plus is Apple’s top of the line phablet device. It packs tons of power, a fantastic large HD screen, and an excellent camera set alongside plenty of extra features into a very stylish design. If you’re looking for the best phablet that money can buy, then the iPhone 8 Plus has to head up your list of devices.

Connectivity wise you’re getting the normal options, including 3G, 4G, WiFi, and the new Bluetooth 5.0 tech. The 8 Plus comes in two versions, one with 64 GB of internal storage, and the more expensive version with 256 GB of storage. There’s no SD card slot here to add extra storage though, so choose carefully!

Okay, so do we have any complaints? We’d like an SD card slot, of course, but Apple never offer that option so complaining is kind of pointless. We’d also like to see a little less bezel around that screen (to compete with Samsung’s Infinity display, and the practically bezel-less iPhone X). Other than that though, we think that the 8 Plus is an awesome phone. If you’re looking for top quality big screened phones, then check out the iPhone 8 Plus, you definitely won’t regret it!
