About the iPhone 7 Plus 256GB Gold

Apple have one of the most recognisable brand names in the world, and frequently make the best selling phone of the year. But their phablet range is still pretty new, and their first attempt, the 6S Plus wasn’t exactly ground breaking. However, the new iPhone 7 Plus is set to change that. It’s a bit, fast phone in a niche that’s dominated by Android, but it’s also got a stunning array of brilliant features. This is the release that we’ve been waiting for from Apple, and we think you’re going to love it.

Why buy one? Okay, obviously you get fast performance and some nice design. But there’s longer than ever battery life, better than ever audio and sound quality, a dual rear camera that’s simply awesome, and it’s water resistant as well. For top end shoppers, the iPhone 7 Plus is going to be a fantastic buy.

Key Features on the iPhone 7 Plus

This is unmistakeably an Apple phone. The metal and glass unibody frame is light but solid in the hand, the profile is slim line, the edges sleek, the curves sexy, this is the classic Apple look that we’re all familiar with. However, there are a couple of changes. The home button is now a haptic touch pad rather than physical, and the antennae bands are gone, leaving the back panel smooth and unbroken.

Under the hood you’re getting some nice internal improvements too. There’s that dual rear camera, a larger battery, better audio quality, and a new chip set giving you more speed than ever. And the whole device is water resistant as well.

There’s no hiding the fact that you’re going to be making a big investment here, but this is a truly premium product. If you want the best of the best, then the clear choice is going to be the iPhone 7 Plus.

Performance and Power

We’ll begin with one of the most important aspects of a new phone: performance. And while Apple don’t generally give us exact numbers, the 7 Plus seems to run about a 2.2 GHz quad core processor. It certainly runs the new Apple A10 chip set, and has 3 GB of RAM. All this means that the 7 Plus is super fast and super responsive, exactly what you’d expect from a great phone.

This is Apple, so we’re talking iOS, and you’ve got iOS10 out of the box. The newest OS version is faster and more stable than ever before, and though it’s still intuitive and familiar, there are a few tweaks. There’s “raise to wake,” and better notifications on your lock screen, and menus are less crowded, simplifying the whole interface.

Bottom line: performance is excellent, and user experience is stress free and easy. You can’t ask more from a phone than that.

Display Specs

This is a phablet device, so you can expect a decently sized screen, and the 7 Plus gets a five and a half inch display. That does mean that it’s not easy to keep in your pocket, and one handed use isn’t comfortably, but on the other hand, the viewing, reading and typing experience is excellent. This is also a 3D touch screen, using tech first seen on the iPhone 6S.

Resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixels, about 401 PPI, so it’s HD though not 4K. Those numbers aren’t as bad as they seem though, when you consider that this is an LED blacklit LCD screen with IPS for better viewing angles. Colour reproduction is natural, bright, and true.

Ignoring all that tech talk for a second, essentially you’re getting a great screen that’s beautiful to look at, especially when it comes to colour. Whether you’re gaming, watching videos, or just sending texts, this is a fantastic, large display.

The Cameras

We all like taking snaps on our mobiles, and the 7 Plus is being marketed as a great phone for photographers, due to its awesome camera set. Starting at the front you’ll see a 7 MP cam with auto face recognition and HDR, which is higher resolution than we normally see for front cameras.

At the back you’ll find a dual 12 MP camera, which is a big selling point. Whilst the technicalities are complex, this basically allows you to zoom in and out of shots, in the same was as with a DSLR camera, without losing picture quality. Add in a quad LED flash for awesome low light pics, HDR, panorama, and optical zoom, and you’ve got a winner. Plus, you can take 8 MP pics and record 4K video at the same time!

For both pros and amateurs, this camera set is going to be a dream. It’s one of the best around, and it comes complete with an easy to use interface, meaning you’ll get the best shots every time.

And the Rest…

There are tons of special features here, but we need to mention a few important ones. Let’s start with the headphone jack: there isn’t one. You’ll get an adaptor so you can use your regular headphones, or you can go wireless if you prefer, but there’s no 3.5 mm jack. Instead, headphones are plugged into the lightening jack, where faster data transfer equals better audio quality for you. But this does mean that there’s no charging your phone while headphones are plugged in.

The 7 Plus us water resistant, the IP67 rating meaning it can be in up to a metre of water for up to half an hour. It’s got better battery life too, giving up to 21 hours of use per charge cycle. And finally, external audio is also improved, with the addition of dual external speakers for true stereo sound.

iPhone 7 Plus 256GB Gold Review

There are certainly plenty of great phones to choose from these days, but the iPhone 7 Plus just stands out from the crowd. It looks fantastic, gets super fast performance, and has tons of extras, like better battery life, superb cameras, and stunning audio, and it’s all water resistant too. For demanding customers looking for a premium hand set, this has to be the phone of the year.

In terms of connectivity there’s WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, and more LTE bands giving faster and better 4G as well. You’re getting a massive 256 GB of internal memory, which is really huge, but since there’s no SD card slot you can’t add more storage should you need it. You do get one of Apple’s iCloud accounts though, so there’s the safety net of online storage.

Time for our complaints, but we don’t really have anything major. The lack of headphone jack might be off putting for some people. Screen resolution numbers are a little disappointing, but that’s theoretical, in practice the screen is excellent to look at. The pros more than outweigh the cons here, and if you’re looking for a real, top of the line flagship phone, then you’ve got to check out the new iPhone 7 Plus, it’s fantastic.
