Just six months after the launch of their newest flagship, Samsung have brought us an update: the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. Why the update? To accommodate an even bigger screen, and in this case bigger is better. With speedy performance, and that awesome screen, the S6 Edge + is going to be a sure fire winner. Samsung are once again at the top of their game, and this is the result: a phone that’s going to please even the most demanding of users.
What should you be looking forward too? Super fast performance, decent cameras, and of course, that big, big screen. This is one of the biggest and best phones around right now, and if you’re looking for something that ticks all the boxes, then the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + should be at the top of your list.
There’s definitely a hint of traditional Samsung styling here, with sleek lines, nice curves and slim build, but this is a metal unibody design, still somewhat unusual for the company. That huge screen curves around the sides of the front panel, giving extra real estate, and meets a metal rim followed by a glass back panel. Despite the size this does fit nicely in the hand, and build quality is excellent. All in all, the S6 Edge + is a very, very good looking piece of tech.
Appearances aside, you’re getting some very impressive power here. A combination of top end processing power and tons of RAM means you’re getting awesome performance. And there are even a couple of nice cameras thrown into the mix as well. This is a real flagship phone, and one that doesn’t come cheap, but it’s also one that’s very much worth paying for.
The bottom line here is that this could well be the perfect phone. All those great specs in a good looking body mean that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + is going to be at the top of a lot of wishlists this year, and it deserves to be!
Let’s start out with what’s obviously a major selling point on the S6 Edge +, the display. What Samsung calls the Edge is an extension of the main screen that wraps around the edges of the front panel. This extra space can show an alarm clock, newsfeeds, calling info, pretty much anything, and it also works as a controller for things like the cameras and music player, leaving the main screen uncluttered. In size you’re looking at a huge 5.7 inches, so on screen typing is a breeze, and video watching is incredible. One handed use doesn’t really work out though…
Couple that size with some awesome specs and you’ve got something really worth looking at. You’re getting 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (around 518 PPI), and it’s a Samsung Super AMOLED as well. Those two things mean that you’re getting a picture that’s crisp and clear and that has excellent colour reproduction as well.
Whether you’re editing pictures, watching HD video, or just surfing the net, the display on the S6 Edge + is truly amazing. It’s going to be tough to find anything better than this, Samsung really have given you the best combo of screen specs around.
The screen might be the main selling point, but Samsung haven’t skimped on other specs. Behind that screen you’re looking at massive octo core processing power. Yes, that means eight. There are two quad core processors on board, a 2.1 GHz CPU and a 1.5 GHz model. The old Edge had only 3 GB of RAM, but this time you’re getting 4 GB, so performance is super fast and very responsive as well.
As we’d expect to see, this is an Android device. Out of the box you’re running Android 5.1 Lollipop, which gives you the intuitive interface you know and love along with a bunch of new features, more security and stability. We’re big fans of the profiles option that allows you to keep both a business and a personal profile on your phone.
If you’re looking for top end performance, then look no further. These specs are going to be very difficult to beat. Samsung Galaxy phones tend to be amongst the best when it comes to performance, and the S6 Edge + is no exception to that at all.
Samsung don’t always make great cameras, but the ones on the S6 Edge + are surprisingly decent, though they’re not the highest resolution cams on the market. The front camera is 5 MP, which is pretty good resolution for a front cam since you’re likely to only be using it for video calling and taking a selfie or two.
Around the back you’re getting a 16 MP camera, which isn’t as big as some of the 20 MP or so models we’re seeing around, but is still pretty good. The rear cam does have an f1.9 aperture though, meaning it can capture more light and making this a great choice for low light photography. Add in some nice extras (LED flash, auto focus, face recognition, optical image stabilisation, and the ability to live stream to YouTube), and you’ve got a pretty nice camera overall.
The camera software opens fast and is fairly intuitive, so if you’re looking to take good pictures with the minimum of fuss then you should be more than happy here. And truthfully, pics taken on the S6 Edge + look pretty good to us, though pro photographers might not agree.
When it comes to special features really nothing too exciting has been added in compared to the original S6 Edge. You’ll be getting wireless charging, which is always nice since it means that you don’t need to tie your phone to a cable charger.
A heart rate monitor is included too, as well as a fingerprint scanner. Unlike older models this is a press to scan feature, rather than a swipe to scan, so it’s that much more reliable and easier to use as well.
Finally, we do like Samsung’s quick to launch camera feature too. Press the home screen key twice from any screen and the camera app will open in less than a second. Handy for taking pics when you’re in a hurry.

This is, hands down, one of the best mobiles around right now. That combo of awesome screen, even more awesome processing power, and some nice added extras, makes for a phone that’s going to be very desirable. Plus, of course, the S6 Edge + is very nice to look at as well, which never hurts in a new phone…
You’ll get the normal connectivity options: WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G. But you won’t be getting expandable external storage, because there’s no SD card slot. The unibody design means that the back panel is not removable, so no removable battery and no SD card. This model does have 64 GB of internal storage though, which is a fair amount of space.
So, any complaints? We could whine about the lack of removable battery or the lack of an SD card slot, but that would really seem petty in the face of the otherwise awesome specs that the S6 Edge + has to offer. If you want a mobile that’s going to wow your friends, and yourself, and that’s going to give you top end performance as well, then the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + is going to be a great buy!
