Vodafone is one of the four major UK mobile networks. They’re probably best known for providing a multitude of plans, as well as for combining TV and broadband services for those that like to save money by bundling. Vodafone is currently the third largest network in the UK.
Vodafone do offer a wide range of packages, including bundling options that give you discounts for combining mobile, TV and/or home broadband plans.
On the whole, Vodafone do have many benefits, however, these benefits do vary depending on which plan you opt for. All Vodafone mobile plans include a certain amount of roaming, though smaller plans have roaming in a limited selection of countries.
Some plans also provide you with entertainment options, such as streaming or TV packages as well. Whilst others provide you with special international calling rates.
It’s impossible to tell you exactly which benefits you’ll be given since these depend heavily on the plan that you opt for. But rest assured that you will be getting something, whether that’s entertainment packages, roaming, or something else entirely. We’ll give you the heads up on common benefits for individual plans below.
Vodafone have probably the widest range of available phone plans on the UK market. To start with they offer two kinds of SIM only 30-day rolling contracts. These contracts automatically renew every 30 days but can be cancelled at the end of any 30 day period.
The first set of 30-day contracts are called the “Essentials” Plan. These plans all give you roaming to 48 countries across the world included. There are two options:
There is also another set of 30-day contracts called the “Red Extra” plans. Again, these plans include roaming to 48 countries. These plans are generally better for bigger data users. The available Red Extra 30 day SIM only plans are:
And Vodafone have three different kinds of 12-month contracts. These do require a longer commitment, but prices are generally a little cheaper than you’ll find on 30-day rolling contracts.
The first option again are the “Essentials” plans, these all include mobile roaming to 48 different destinations. The current available Essentials plans are:
The second option are again called “Red Extra” plans. And again, all include mobile roaming to 48 countries across the world. The available Red Extra plans are:
Finally, there are the “Red Entertainment” plans. These all include roaming to 77 destinations across the world, your choice of Spotify Premium/Sky Sports Mobile TV/NOW TV/Amazon Prime Video, and 500 minutes of international calling. The available plans are:
Vodafone also offers a wide range of add-on products, from extra minutes to international calling minutes, extra data, international data, credit for calling 08 numbers, and many more. The exact range of add-ons that you’re eligible for will depend on which plan you sign up for.
If you exceed your monthly limits for calling or data and decide not to buy an add-on to get more, you’ll be charged Vodafone’s standard rates for extra usage. That means paying 55p a minute for calls and £6.50 for every 250 MB of data you use (with a minimum charge of £6.50). All Vodafone plans have unlimited texts, so you’ll never be charged for text messages.
Vodafone also has a huge selection of PAYG plans. Your first option is the simple Pay As You Go 1 plan. You’ll pay 20p per calling minutes, 20p per text, and 20p per MB of data used up to a limit of £1 per day. Once you reach that £1 limit you’ll then get unlimited texts and calls and 500 MB of data valid for the rest of the day (until midnight).
You also have the option of buying “Big Value Bundles.” These give you a set amount of minutes, texts, and data and are valid for 30 days. You can choose to renew or not renew your bundle every month, and can buy a new bundle any time. The available bundles are:
You also have the option of buying “Big Bundle Six Packs.” These give you cheaper prices on bundles, are valid for 180 days (with each bundle included valid for 30 days each), and are cheaper than buying the individual bundles separately. There are two options:
Vodafone does support data rollover on SIM only contracts AND on PAYG Big Value Bundles. This lets you roll over any unused data to the next month but can be done for only one month. So unused data from March can be used in April but not in June (though unused data from April can be used in June).
Vodafone gets great coverage across the UK. They have 98% 2G coverage, 96% 3G coverage, and 96% 4G coverage. However, it’s always a good idea to double check coverage in your local area before signing up. You can easily do this by using the coverage checker on the Vodafone website, or by using the UK mobile coverage checker app from OFCOM.
Tethering means using your phone as a hotspot to connect other devices (such as laptops or tablets) to the internet. This means that the other devices will use your phone’s mobile data to get online. Vodafone allows tethering for all their contracts and PAYG plans. Do be aware, however, that tethering tends to use up mobile data limits quite quickly.
