There are plenty of benefits to joining Three, not the least being that wide choice of plans and great prices for mobile data. You’ll have access to Three’s fast 4G mobile data network, which gets great UK coverage too.

All contracts (include 30-day rolling contracts) that have over 4 GB of data included getting access to Go Binge, meaning you get unlimited data for streaming services on Netflix, Soundcloud, Deezer, TV Player, and Apple TV.

Three’s Feel at Home benefit gives you free mobile roaming in multiple countries, including the US, so you won’t get hefty roaming bills when you go on holiday.

And if you download the Wuntu app (available only with Three) you’ll get access to weekly perks, including discounts for restaurants and shopping too.

Pricing and Bundles: SIM Only

Three have tons of SIM only deals to choose from. First up, they have five 30 day rolling contracts available. These contracts will automatically renew every 30 days, but you’re free to cancel your contract at the end of any 30 day period, so you’re not locked in. The choices are:

• 600 calling minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data for £15 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts and 4 GB of data for £16 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts and 12 GB of data for £23 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts and 30 GB of data for £22 a month (this is a current special offer and prices on this contract may go up soon!)
• Unlimited calling minutes, texts, and data for £32 a month

You’ll also find a range of 12-month contracts for SIM only with Three. These are long term, so you have to make a commitment, but prices are lower, so they’re worth considering. Three also allows you to upgrade your contract to a larger one without penalty and without adding extra length to your contract. Your 12 month SIM only contract options are:

• 200 calling minutes, unlimited texts, 500 MB of data for £9 a month
• 600 calling minutes, unlimited texts, 1 GB of data for £10 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts, and 8 GB of data for £14 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts, and 12 GB of data for £18 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes and texts, and 100 GB of data for £20 a month
• Unlimited calling minutes, texts, and data for £27 a month

Three do frequently discount their contract offers though, so it’s always worth checking current offers on the Three website.

Three also offer a range of add-ons to add extra minutes or data to your current plan either for just one month or on a recurring basis. Prices and availability of add ons depends on which plan you have, so we can’t give you exact prices on those.

Out of Bundle Charges: SIM Only

If you go over your monthly limits with Three you’ll be paying out of bundle charges. These are 55p per calling minute. All Three plans come with unlimited texts, so there’s no out of bundle charges for those. And if you reach your data limit your data will be cut off, forcing you to buy a data add-on if you want more data, so again, no unexpected charges for that.

Pricing and Bundles: PAYG

Three offers a couple of different ways to deal with PAYG service. If you want a traditional PAYG plan, where you simply pay for what you use, then a PAYG SIM with Three will cost you 3p per minute for calls, 2p per text message (40p for a picture or video messages), and 1p per MB of mobile data. Minimum top up is £5 and credit never expires. Three also offer a special Data Rewards SIM card, and if you choose this option you will get 200 MB of data for free every month (but you will NOT be able to buy one of the bundles listed below).

However, if you’re a bigger user then Three does offer a variety of bundles. This lets you buy a package of minutes, texts, and data for a cheaper price. When you buy a bundle it is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase, after which all credit will disappear. You can buy bundles whenever you wish (you’re not limited to one a month), but if you have a Data Rewards SIM card you cannot buy bundles. The five available bundles are:

• 3000 calling minutes, 3000 texts, and 1 GB of data for £10
• 3000 calling minutes, 3000 texts, and 5 GB of data for £15
• 3000 calling minutes, 3000 texts, and 12 GB of data for £20
• 3000 calling minutes, 3000 texts, and 30 GB of data for £25
• 3000 calling minutes, 3000 texts, and unlimited data (valid for 30 days only!) for £35

Unused Data Offerings

Three does not currently offer data roll over. This means that any data that is unused at the end of your billing period (or after 30 days in the case of PAYG bundles) will disappear.

Three Network and Coverage

Three gets great coverage across the UK with 97% coverage for both 3G and 4G. However, they do not support 2G services, though this should only be an issue if you have an older “dumb” phone. It is always a good idea to check coverage with a network in your local area, however. You can do this by finding the coverage checker on the Three website, or by using OFCOM’s UK mobile coverage app.

Three and Tethering

Tethering means using your mobile phone as an internet hotspot that you can connect other devices to get online. This is useful if you have a tablet or laptop and no wifi or broadband connection. Three does NOT allow tethering on classic PAYG plans. However, you can use tethering on any SIM Only contract (30 day or 12 month), and you may tether if you have that PAYG Data Rewards SIM card.
