Tesco Mobile offers plenty of benefits. These include capped contracts that allow you to place a limit on the amount of money that can be spent each month. You can place a limit of anywhere from £0 to £100 on top of your monthly bill.
You also have the option of a flex contract that will allow you to change your service plan any time you like (rather than having to wait for the end of the contract to upgrade or downgrade). And you can earn Tesco Clubcard points through your mobile bill.
Tesco Mobile also has family plans that allow you to tie up to 6 phones to one bill. Every phone tied to a family plan can choose one perk per month, with perks ranging from £2 off your next bill to an extra 1 GB of data, extra Clubcard points, and more.
Tesco has a range of SIM Only deals. Firstly, they have three 30 day rolling contract choices. These contracts automatically renew every 30 days but can be cancelled at the end of any 30 day period. The choices are:
There are also several 12-month contract options. These are valid for a year, but do remember that Tesco Mobile offers flex contracts that allow you to change your plan if you find you need more or less data/minutes/texts:
However, Tesco Mobile very often discount their 12-month contracts, so it’s worth checking up on current prices. That 50 GB bundle is sometimes discounted as low as £25 a month.
In addition, Tesco has a variety of add-ons that you can add to your contract either just for one month or recurring. The add-ons and prices depend on which kind of contract you have, but as an example, an extra 1 GB of data costs around £5.
If you exceed your monthly contract limits for texts/calling/data and you do not purchase an add-on to give you extra you’ll need to pay out of bundle charges. Currently, those charges are 25p per calling minute to regular UK numbers, 10p per text message, and 10p per MB of data used.
Tesco Mobile offers two options for PAYG customers: Triple Credit or Rocket Packs. With Triple Credit, you simply pay for what you use, and you’ll pay 25p per minute for calls, 10p per text message, and 10p per MB of data used. You can top up whenever you like, and Tesco will triple your credit every time you top up. This means that a £10 top-up will actually get you £30 of credit. Top ups are available in £10, £15, and £20 increments.
Rocket Packs are a slightly different way of doing things, giving you an allotment of minutes, texts and data for one price. Every Rocket Pack that you buy is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. There are three options:
You can buy new Rocket Packs whenever you need them, you’re not limited to only one a month.
Tesco Mobile does not currently offer data roll over. This means that any unused data you have will vanish either at the end of your billing period or after 30 days in the case of PAYG Rocket Packs.
Tesco Mobile uses O2’s infrastructure to provide service, which means coverage is the same as it is with O2. Right now O2 gets 99% coverage for 2G, 98% coverage for 3G, and 97% coverage for 4G. However, it’s always a good idea to double check coverage in your local area. You can do this by checking the coverage map on Tesco Mobile’s website, or by checking out the OFCOM UK mobile coverage app.
Tethering is using your mobile phone as a hotspot to get you an internet connection on your tablet, laptop or another device. Tesco Mobile does not place any restrictions on tethering, you can use any of their plans to tether. This includes their PAYG plans, which is unusual since many operators don’t allow tethering on PAYG. Just be aware that tethering does tend to eat up data allowances very quickly.
