About the iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Gold

Apple products tend to be both popular and expensive, but the past couple of releases haven’t exactly been stunning. However, the iPhone 7 Plus looks set to change that pattern. In a niche traditionally dominated by Android, the 7 Plus phablet may well be the best of the bunch. Apple need to show Android who’s boss, and the iPhone 7 Plus might be just the phone that can do that for them.

Why should you want to get your hands on one? Obviously you’re getting good performance and nice design, but it’s the special features that really stand out. The dual rear camera set is awesome, as is the bigger battery, and the enhanced audio is stunning. If you’re in the market for a premium mobile, then this is going to be the phone for you.

Key Features on the iPhone 7 Plus

This is clearly an Apple phone from the very first glance. There’s a metal and glass unibody casing that’s both light and still solid and premium in the hand, there’s a slim profile with sexy lines and soft curves. But there are a couple of small changes. The rear of the phone is now a solid glass plate, those old antennae bands have disappeared, and the physical home button is now a haptic feedback pad.

Aside from its looks, this device has some fantastic specs. There’s plenty of processing power and speed, an astonishingly good camera set, improved audio, a bigger battery, all this and it’s water resistant as well.

The iPhone 7 Plus is going to set you back a fair bit, as iPhones tend to do, but you’re paying for top quality design and performance. This is one of the best large screen flagship devices on shelves at the moment.

The Big Screen

Given that this is a phablet, the screen is one of the key selling points. You’re getting five and a half inches of space here, which is brilliant for typing, viewing, or reading. Do be warned though that this phone isn’t going to slip into your pocket easily, and you won’t be using it with one hand. You also get that 3D touch tech first seen on the older iPhone 6S model.

Resolution numbers are slightly misleading. It is an HD screen, with 1080 x 1920 pixels (making for about 401 PPI), but that’s not 4K. The lower resolution is compensated for by the amazing backlit LED LCD screen though, with natural colour reproduction that makes images look flawless. There’s IPS too, so no worries about viewing angles here.

The display on the iPhone 7 Plus is big and beautiful and a joy to look at. No matter whether you’re editing photos or watching an HD movie, you’ll be stunned by the bright colours and smooth lines of this display.

And Performance…

But a great screen isn’t enough, we need power and performance too. We don’t generally get exact numbers from Apple, but it looks like the 7 Plus is running a 2.2 GHz or so quad core processor. What we do know is that there’s 3 GB of RAM, and a new chip set (the A10 Fusion set). Combine all of this and you’ve got a device that’s not only fast but that’s also very responsive.

As an Apple product it’s no surprise that the 7 Plus runs iOS, and this is iOS10, the newest version. The user interface has been cleaned up, menus decluttered for easier use. You get new features like “raise to wake,” and better lock screen notifications. But this is still the familiar, intuitive interface that you know and love.

A phone in this price range needs to have excellent performance, and the iPhone 7 Plus doesn’t let us down. It’s lightning fast, with zero lag, even when multi tasking.

The Camera Set

The 7 Plus is being marketed as a phone for photographers, as well it should be with the excellent camera set it has. Initially, the front camera is a full 7 MP, which is very high resolution for a front cam, and comes with HDR as well as auto face recognition.

Move around to the back and you’re getting a dual 12 MP camera. Yes, two sensors. The geeky stuff is complicated, but basically this means you get to zoom without losing picture quality, like with a DSLR. There’s a quad LED flash too, so even low light photos are fantastic. You’ll be able to simultaneously take 8 MP pics and record 4K video, and there’s optical zoom as well as the regular HDR and panorama modes.

If you love taking pictures you’ll love the iPhone 7 Plus. Add in a camera software that’s simple to use, and you’ll be snapping away in no time.

The Special Features

We can’t mention all the special features here (there are too many!), but a few should be singled out. You’re getting a water resistant device with an IP67 rating (good in water up to a metre deep for up to 30 minutes). You’re getting a bigger battery too, with the 7 Plus promising up to 21 hours of use per charge. And there are now dual external speakers for real stereo sound.

Speaking of sound, you’ll find no headphone jack here. Apple provide an adaptor if you want to use your regular headphones, and you can always invest in some wireless ear buds. But headphones plug into the lightening port (usually used for charging), where faster data transfer equals better sound quality. Be aware that you can NOT simultaneously charge your phone and plug in headphones!

iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Gold Review

There are plenty of phablets to choose from, and plenty of high end phones, but the iPhone 7 Plus is the perfect combination. You get fast performance, amazing cameras, excellent sound and audio, and an improved battery, all in a water resistant shell. There’s a lot to love here, and even the most demanding of shoppers is going to be impressed!

In terms of connectivity you’ll get WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G (with support for more LTE bands meaning better and faster 4G). There is only 32 GB of internal memory on this model, which isn’t a lot, and you won’t be adding more, since there’s no SD card slot. What you will get though is access to online storage through an Apple iCloud account.

Alrighty, bottom line time, and what don’t we like? If we’re being picky we’ll say that we’d like more screen resolution (but the display is better than res numbers imply). The absent headphone jack might be a deal breaker for some users. But really, we think this is a fantastic phone. If you want the best phablet that money can buy, then you’d better start checking out deals on the iPhone 7 Plus, because it’s the clear choice!
