If you’re looking for a water resistant phone with great performance, awesome cameras, solid battery life, and stellar audio, then you’ve found it. Think you’re ready to handle this beast of a phone? Then take a look at some of our fantastic deals on the iPhone 7 Plus, 256 GB in silver below.
Phablets are popular devices these days, combining the large screen of a tablet with the functions of a phone, so it’s not surprising that Apple have decided to produce their own phablet line. Whilst last year’s 6S Plus was, well, fine, it’s the new iPhone 7 Plus that really shows what Apple are capable of. This is the iOS phablet we’ve all been waiting for, and it’s more than able to stand up against the many Android phablets on shelves.
Why should you buy this phone? Tons of reasons. Styling and performance, of course, but also there’s the great camera set, the big battery life, the great audio, not to mention that this is the first water resistant iPhone as well. If you want a premium hand set, then the iPhone 7 Plus is an exceptional choice.
Right from the start you know this is an iPhone. The build is unibody, full glass and metal, and it feels premium and rock solid in the hand, though it’s still light weight. The profile is slim, the edges sleek, the corners gently curved. But the observant will notice a couple of changes. The physical home button is now a haptic bad, so it vibrates rather than clicks. And the antennae bands on the back of the phone have been removed, making for a smooth back plate.
Looking inside you’ll find some gratifying specs. That new chip set means faster speeds, the dual rear camera makes for amazing pics, the battery is bigger, then audio improved, and the whole thing is even water resistant.
Yes, this is a big investment, but it’s also a worthwhile one if you’re looking for a top of the line flagship device. The iPhone 7 Plus is a powerhouse of a phone, with tons of fabulous features.
The big advantage on phablets is screen size, so let’s begin there. The 7 Plus gets a 5.5 inch display, which means you won’t be using it with one hand, and you won’t be sliding it into the pocket of your skinny jeans. But you will be having an awesome viewing experience, and typing on screen is a breeze. You’ll find 3D touch screen tech here as well, just like on the older iPhone 6S model.
Resolution comes in at 1080 x 1920 pixels, around 401 PPI. That is HD, though not 4K as on many top end phones these days. But the numbers are a bit misleading. This is an LED backlit LCD screen, so colours are flawless, natural and bright. There’s also IPS, so viewing angles are wide and perfect.
It’s probably best to ignore those resolution numbers and focus on actual experience, and we’ve found that the screen on the 7 Plus is fantastic. HD video in particular looks amazing, but even gaming and web browsing are both great.
You’ll want some solid performance to go with that big screen, and the 7 Plus won’t let you down. It appears to be running a 2.2 GHz quad core processing unit (we rarely get exact numbers from Apple). And it’s definitely running the new A10 Fusion chip set along with 3 GB of RAM. Add all that into the mix and you’re looking at a super speedy and super responsive device.
All Apple products run iOS, and this is no exception. You’ve got iOS10, the newest operating system version, which is intuitive and familiar and yet has some nice tweaks. There’s a new “raise to wake” feature, along with far better notifications on the lock screen. And menus have been simplified down, so they’re less crowded and easier to use.
Long story short: performance is amazing. There’s no lag, even when multi tasking, and even hard core users are going to be more than satisfied with the speeds that the 7 Plus can achieve.
The 7 Plus is being marketed as a superb camera phone, and it does have a very impressive camera set. At the front there’s a 7 MP camera (higher resolution than we expect to see on front cams), complete with automatic face detection and HDR.
At the back you’re getting the new 12 MP dual rear camera. You don’t really need to understand the technical bits, in practice this dual cam just allows you to avoid loss of picture quality when zooming in and out (giving a more DSLR experience). There’s HDR here too, as well as optical zoom and panorama modes, and quad LED flash for great low light photography. Finally, you can simultaneously record 4K video and take 8 MP pictures, should you wish to.
Photographers, both pro and amateur, and going to love the 7 Plus. Even better, the intuitive camera interface makes taking great pictures easy, so all your shots will look fantastic.
There are a few things that we haven’t covered that do deserve a special mention here. First, that IP67 rating means that the 7 Plus is water resistant and is safe in up to a metre of water for up to half an hour. Second, dual external speakers now mean that you get true stereo sound. And third, the bigger battery means you get up to 21 hours of use per battery charge.
The big deal here is probably the lack of headphone jack. Headphones plug into the lightening port, which give you better audio since data is transferred faster. But this does mean that you can’t charge your phone and plug in headphones at the same time. You’ll get an adaptor should you wish to use your current headphones, or you can always invest in some wireless headphones or ear buds, should you choose.

Buying a new top end phone is a big investment, so you’ll want to know that you’re getting a good deal. And the iPhone 7 Plus definitely gives you an awesome hand set. With great performance, great cameras, great audio, great battery life, and tons of special features, this is a true top end phone. Anyone looking for a premium hand set is going to love the iPhone 7 Plus.
There are the normal connectivity options here, Bluetooth and WiFi, 3G and 4G, but the 7 Plus does support a wider range of LTE bands, so 4G service is even better and faster. You’ll get a monster 256 GB of internal memory, as well as an iCloud account for internet storage, which should be more than enough space. However, you can’t add extra memory, since there’s no SD card slot.
Time for our complaints, and truthfully, we don’t really have many. A few people are going to be turned off by the lack of headphone jack, but the improved audio quality is kind of worth it. The resolution numbers on the screen are lower than we’d like, but the display turns out to be awesome anyway. All in all we think this is a great device. It’s big, it’s fast, it’s got tons of cool features, and if that sounds like the kind of mobile that you want, then start shopping for the iPhone 7 Plus right now!
