About the iPhone 7 Plus 128GB rose gold Pink

After dominating the smart phone market for over a decade, Apple are slowly beginning to lose out to Android. In part this is due to Android’s dominance of the phablet niche, which is where the new iPhone 7 Plus comes in. Apple’s second attempt at a phablet is a big step up from the old 6S Plus, but is this the device that’s going to finally show Android who’s boss? With stunning specs, it could well be.

Why should you want one? There’s the expected great speeds and performance, and of course beautiful design credentials, but the 7 Plus is so much more than that. Improved battery life and audio quality, water resistance, and that superb camera set. If you’re looking for a premium, big screen device, then the iPhone 7 Plus is going to tick all the boxes.

Key Features on the iPhone 7 Plus

Clearly, this is an iPhone. It’s got the familiar slim profile, sexy lines, and gentle curves that you know and love. The premium glass and metal unibody casing is light weight and yet still solid in the hand. But turn the phone over and you’ll see a smooth glass back plate, those antennae bands seen on older models are gone. And the physical home button is gone too, replaced by a vibrating haptic feedback pad instead.

Under the casing you’re getting some very nice internal upgrades too. Faster processing power and a new chip set, new camera tech, improved audio and sound quality, and a larger battery for a longer charge cycle. This is also the first water resistant iPhone.

You’ll be paying a pretty price for this top of the line device, but that could be a worthwhile investment if you want the best that money can buy. The new iPhone 7 Plus is a stellar hand set, and one that even demanding users will love.

Those Performance Specs

A high end phone needs solid performance specs, and there’s no disappointment here. Apple tend not to release exact numbers, but the 7 Plus seems to run something along the lines of a 2.2 GHz quad core processor. There’s certainly 3 GB of RAM on board, as well as the new Apple A10 Fusion chip set. Essentially all this really means is that the 7 Plus is super fast and super responsive, exactly what you’re looking for in a flagship device.

This is Apple, so we’re talking iOS, and the 7 Plus runs the new iOS10 out of the box. This is intuitive and familiar, and yet there are new features too. Menus are simplified and easier to use, lock screen notifications are much improved, and the new “raise to wake” feature is a definite time saver.

You’ll hear no complaints about performance with the 7 Plus. It’s fast, responsive, and there’s no sign of lag, even when performing heavy CPU tasks. If you want a powerhouse of a phone, then this is it.

That Big Screen

A phablet is obviously going to come with a larger than normal screen, and the 7 Plus features a full 5.5 inch display. This does mean that you can’t easily slide it into your pocket, and that one handed use is close to impossible, but on the other hand, the viewing and typing experience is second to none.

Resolution wise you’re getting HD, so 1080 x 1920 pixels (about 401 PPI), but not 4K resolution. However, that doesn’t really matter, since the colour reproduction and clarity on the LED backlit LCD screen is flawless. Colours are deep, true, and natural, and even viewing angles are great thanks to IPS technology.

The display on the 7 Plus is big and beautiful, no matter whether your surfing the net, watching video, or simply typing a text, you’ll love the user experience here. Plus, you get that 3D touch tech as first seen on the iPhone 6S.

The Camera Set

The camera set on the iPhone 7 Plus is being much hyped, and deservedly so, since it’s excellent. At the front you’re seeing a good 7 MP cam, which includes HDR and automatic face detection, and should be more than good enough for selfies and video calling.

Around at the rear though, you’re getting an innovative dual 12 MP camera. The technical details here are confusing, but all you really need to know is that this dual cam means you can zoom in on pictures without losing quality. There’s a quad LED flash for great low light pics, and the ability to record 4K video and take 8 MP pics simultaneously. Plus, you get the regular HDR, panorama, and optimal zoom options.

If you’re a keen mobile photographer, then you’re going to love the iPhone 7 Plus. Pictures are clean, sharp, and bright, and the camera software is intuitive and easy to use. You’ll have brilliant snaps!

The Extra Features…

There are far too many extras for us to mention them all, but there are a couple of important things. Firstly, there’s no headphone jack here (though you’ll get an adaptor to use with your current headphones, or you can opt for Apple’s wireless ear buds). Headphones instead plug into the lightening charging port, which means better sound quality since data is transferred faster. However, you can’t plug in headphones and charge your phone at the same time.

Battery life is much improved, with the larger battery now offering up to 21 hours of use per charge. External sound quality is improved too, with dual speakers giving stereo sound. And this is a water resistant mobile, an IP67 rating means that the device can be submerged in up to a metre of water for up to half an hour.

iPhone 7 Plus 128GB rose gold Pink Review

Premium handsets cost premium prices, so making the right decision is important. But that decision just got easier with the iPhone 7 Plus. Great performance, great cameras, great sound, and it’s water resistant too! If you’ve been searching for the perfect large screened phone, then this is going to make your day.

In terms of connectivity, you get the normal options: Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, and 4G (though more LTE bands are supported here for better and faster 4G speeds). Internally there’s 128 GB of storage, which should be fine for most people, though you won’t be adding any more memory, since there’s no SD card slot. Apple do provide you with an iCloud account for web storage though.

So, our complaints. Well, if we have to nitpick we’d say that the haptic feedback home button was a little odd to use at first. We’d like to see more screen resolution too, though truthfully that display looks pretty darn good. It’s tough to fault the iPhone 7 Plus though, it’s just that good. If you want a phablet, and you want something that performs flawlessly, then this is going to be the hand set for you!
