About the iPhone 6s Plus 64GB Gold

Apple’s original phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus, was released just last year, and they’ve already given us an update with the 6S Plus. Whilst the original was fairly unexciting, the 6 Plus has had a whole bunch of upgrades, and Apple are hoping that it’s going to take the market by storm. And this is this biggest and fastest iPhone we’ve seen yet. Add in some cool 3D touch tech for that awesome display, and it seems that Apple are really onto something. The iPhone 6S Plus could well be in the running for best phone of the year. And why should you want one? Well, there is that 3D touch display with some of the best picture quality around. Then there’s a complete set of camera upgrades for even better pictures. Oh, and a whole new chip set that’s faster than ever. The iPhone 6S Plus has a lot to give, and it’s pretty darn stylish too. If you need a new phablet, then this could be the best choice on shelves.

Key Features on the iPhone 6S Plus

This is very obviously an iPhone, from its sleek lines, rounded corners and minimalistic styling. You might notice that the 6S Plus is a little thicker than normal, thanks to that new screen tech, but that does just mean that it’s more robust. It’s also a full metal and glass unibody build, so quality is unmistakeable, and there’s a real premium feel here. Inside that casing there are some impressive internals as well. A new A9 chip set that makes this the fastest iPhone yet, a set of camera upgrades (the first from Apple for a while), and, of course, that amazing 3D touch display. A stunning combination of style and power makes the iPhone 6S an incredible device, and one that even power users are going to love. It’s a big investment, but it’s a big phone, and it’s definitely worth it’s price.

All New Screen Tech

Let’s start with that 3D touch display. All the 3D means is that the screen is basically more sensitive, knowing the difference between you touching it and pressing it, and reacting differently in each case. This is kind of like the difference between the right and left buttons on your computer mouse, and means that you just have more options when using the display. It’s actually very cool, though it takes a little getting used to. In terms of size, you’re getting a 5.5 inch display, which isn’t easy for one handed use, but does mean that you’ve got plenty of room for viewing and typing. On to resolution, and you’ve got a 1080 x 1920 pixel display, working out to around 401 PPI. That’s not bad, but keep in mind that this is a Retina display, and one with IPS and LED backlighting. What all this means in practice is that the 6S Plus’s display is almost flawless. Colours are true, images are sharp, viewing angles are perfect. We’d rank this as one of the best displays on the market just for picture quality. But with the added 3D touch tech, this really is an incredible screen, functional and beautiful, ideal for anything from HD video to high end gaming.

Power and Performance

Under that screen is the heart of the 6S Plus, and a whole lot of power. The device seems to be running something like a dual core 2 GHz processor (Apple rarely give out numbers). What’s important here though is that new A9 chip set, which should make your device around 70% faster than the old 6 Plus. Throw in 2 GB of RAM for great multi tasking and responsiveness, and you’ve got some excellent performance specs. Obviously, this is an iOS phone, and you’re running the new iOS9 out of the box. Essentially, in looks and user interface anyway, this is the operating system that you’re familiar with, but there area  couple of new things. There’s a low power mode for battery saving now, for example, and a new “back to previous app” icon as well, to make phone navigation that much easier. Performance on the iPhone 6S Plus is superb. It’s fast, easy to use, responsive, and there’s not even a hint of lag. If you’re a demanding user, then rest assured that the 6S Plus will take anything you throw at it.

Solid Camera Specs

We’re all mobile photographers these days, so you’ll be glad to know that Apple have finally upgraded their camera set. At the front there’s now a 5 MP camera, which also has screen flash, allowing the phone display to act as the flash for the cam. Moving around to the back, and there’s a 12 MP camera (unlike the 8 MP cams we’ve been seeing from Apple for so long), with a whole host of features. You’re getting: phase detection autofocus, 4K video recording, optical image stabilisation, dual LED flash, and some very impressive 4609 x 2592 resolution. In short, pictures from the 6S Plus are excellent, bright and clear, with great resolution. If you’re into taking pics, then the 6S Plus will more than deliver.

And the Extras

There are a few more things that we really should mention here. Firstly, Siri, Apple’s digital assistant, has had a few upgrades too. She can now act on and understand more complex commands than ever before. A new camera mode has been added, which Apple are calling Live Photo. This lets you take a video and picture at the same time. A 3 second video is recorded with a still photo taken right in the middle, giving you the traditional photo as well as a sort of moving photo as well. Finally, a fingerprint scanner is included, so you’ll have a little more security. And you’ll also have access to Apple Pay, the new digital wallet and payment service from Apple.

iPhone 6s Plus 64GB Gold Review

Mix killer good looks with killer performance specs and what do you get? The iPhone 6S Plus is a killer phablet, there’s no denying it. It ticks all the boxes and then some. Fast chip set, 3D touch display and great cameras, what more could you possibly want from a device?

You’re getting the regular connectivity options: WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G, but advanced LTE should mean that you’re seeing slightly faster data speeds. Internally, you’ll find 64 GB of built in storage, which sounds like a lot, but there’s no SD card slot, so you won’t be adding any extra memory into your device.

Bottom line time, are there any complaints here? Well, not really. Generally, we prefer an SD card slot, but with 64 GB of memory included we’re not really going to complain about that. Pricing is a tad steep, but you’re certainly getting what you pay for. We just think that the iPhone 6S Plus is fantastic, and if you’re looking for the best phablet around, then this should be high on your list.
