About the iPhone 6s Plus 128GB Silver

Samsung are generally considered the king of the phablet, but since last year Apple have been giving them a run for their money. And with the new iPhone 6S Plus, only the second generation phablet we’ve seen from Apple, they’ve really upped the stakes. Fully upgraded from the first generation, the 6S Plus has tons of speed, and some cool new screen tech as well. Apple have given us an amazing device, and might just be stealing that crown from Samsung. Why do you need a 6S Plus? There are just so many reasons. There’s that new screen tech, with incredible picture quality. There’s that new chip set with amazing speeds. And then there are upgraded cameras, loads of storage, and a few extra features too. If you’re shopping around for a new phablet, then the 6S Plus definitely deserves your consideration.

Key Features on the iPhone 6S Plus

From first glance you know that this is an iPhone, there’s the famous sleek lines and sexy curves, and a general minimalist feel at play. The 6S Plus is slightly thicker than we’re used to, because of that new screen tech, but this only makes it more robust. A full metal and glass unibody build means that the 6S Plus is light, but sits comfortably in the hand with a feeling of premium quality. Aside from its good looks, the 6S Plus has some impressive internal specs too. There’s a whole new chip set, so speeds are faster than ever. There’s an upgraded camera set for awesome pictures. And then, of course, there’s that whole new display, which has incredible picture quality. Add all of this up and you’re looking at one of the best phablets on the market right now. Good looks, great performance and awesome features mean that the iPhone 6S Plus is going to be in very high demand.

New Display Tech

Let’s start with finding out just what exactly a 3D touch display is. It’s kind of difficult to explain in words, but essentially the screen is more sensitive. This allows it to know whether you’re simply touching an icon, or whether you’re pushing down on an icon, and to react in different ways. This gives you double the options, of course, in kind of the same way as having both a left and right click button on your computer mouse does. It’s a little strange initially, but ends up being very useful indeed. You’re getting a 5.5 inch display here, lots of room for typing and viewing, but one handed use isn’t easy. Resolution is 1080 x 1920, which gives you around 401 PPI. However, this is an LED backlit Retina display with IPS, so picture quality is far better than those resolution numbers might imply. Colour reproduction is excellent, as are viewing angles, and images are crisp, clear and defined. For picture quality alone this is one of the best displays on the market, Apple really know what they’re doing with this Retina tech now. But add in the 3D touch capability and you’ve got a display that’s simply amazing.

Power and Performance Specs

Performance is obviously key in a smart phone, and it looks like the 6S Plus has around a dual core 2 GHz processor on board (Apple don’t release specs like this, however). But more importantly, there’s that new A9 chip set. This is around 70% faster than the older A8 set, and that’s a very noticeable difference. There’s 2 GB of RAM as well, so the 6S Plus is not only fast, but also super responsive to input. As an Apple product the 6S Plus does run iOS, and it’s got the latest iOS9 version out of the box. Not a lot has changed for the user here, it’s the familiar, intuitive OS that you know and love, though there are a couple of new things. There’s a low power option for saving battery juice, as well as a “back to previous app” icon to ease switching back and forth between apps. Want stellar performance? You’ve got it. The iPhone 6S Plus is speedy, responsive and very capable of multi tasking. Even power users are going to be satisfied here.

And the Cameras…

Surprisingly, we’ve got a whole new camera set here as well, something that Apple hasn’t given us for a while now. Up front there’s a 5 MP video calling camera, perfect for selfies, and it’s got screen flash too (so the display light up to act as the flash). Behind, the standard 8 MP camera has been abandoned, replaced by a shiny new 12 MP affair. There’s some impressive features here too, with 4609 x 2592 resolution, 4K video recording, dual LED flash, optical image stabilisation and phase detection autofocus as well. Pictures from the 6S Plus are beautiful. They’re bright, clear and very sharp, so if you’re a mobile photographer, these camera specs should make you more than happy.

What Else?

Finally, there are a few other features that deserve a mention here. Siri, Apple’s famous digital assistant, has had an upgrade as well. She’d know even more useful than ever, and able to respond to much more complex commands and questions. A new camera mode has been added too, and it’s pretty neat. Live Photo lets you capture both video and still pictures simultaneously. You get a 3 second video with a picture taken in the middle, leaving you both a still photo and a kind of moving photo. Cool. The 6S Plus has a fingerprint scanner, which is fairly standard for Apple nowadays, but you’ll get a little more security with this. And then finally there’s access to Apple Pay, which is Apple’s new digital payment and wallet service.

iPhone 6s Plus 128GB Silver Review

The iPhone 6S Plus is an incredible device, and one of the best phablets we’ve seen. Super fast speeds, an amazing 3D touch display, better cameras, it just really checks all the boxes and then some. Plus, that large screen space makes for a better and more comfortable user experience. All this means that the 6S Plus is going to be high on wish lists.

Connectivity is what you’d expect here, with 3G, 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth, though that advanced LTE should make for faster data speeds. You’re getting a ton of memory as well, with a massive 128 GB of internal storage. That’s a lot, but then, there’s no SD card slot, so you won’t be adding any more.

Right, any complaints here? Not really, to be honest. Normally we like an SD card option, but with 128 GB of memory that’s not a problem here. The price point is high, but you’re definitely getting what you pay for. On the whole, we love the new iPhone 6S Plus, it’s a great phablet, and one that’s going to be a big hit.
