Let’s be honest, Apple release a lot of iPhones, and it can be tough to justify upgraded from year to year. But the iPhone 6S is a version that’s well worth paying for, and it’s a big step up from the regular 6 model. Faster, better cameras, cooler screen tech, there’s an awful lot to be excited about here. Apple are at the top of their game, and the iPhone 6S just goes to show that there’s no sign of them slipping any time soon. Why should you be excited? Fully upgraded cameras mean that you’re getting better pictures than ever before, a new chip set means even faster speeds, and 3D touch screen tech makes that display the highest tech screen around. If you’re looking for a phone that’s not just cool but that has second to none performance, then stop looking. The iPhone 6S is exactly what you need.
This is legendary Apple styling at its best. The iPhone 6S has sharp lines, sleek curves, and a premium metal and glass unibody build. It is a little thicker than previous incarnations, probably because of that new screen tech that we’ll get to in a moment, but that just makes it even more sturdy. If you want a good looking phone then Apple are always a good bet, and the iPhone 6S is no exception to the rule. Under the hood, since not everything’s about looks, you’re getting fully upgraded internals. The 6S is faster than the 6, and it’s got a full set of camera upgrades as well. Add in that cool new screen tech, and then a few more special features, and you’re looking at a real top of the line mobile. The 6S isn’t just the big brother of the iPhone 6, it’s a great phone in its own right. It’s sexy, powerful and laden with features, so what’s not to love about it? You want the best, then the 6S is the best when it comes to iOS devices.
That display is what everyone is talking about, so let’s start there. First up, it’s a 4.7 inch screen, so not as big as some, though that does make the 6S more portable than many flagship phones. On screen touch typing is still comfortable though. And 3D touch? Well, your 6s can now recognise between you touching an icon and pressing an icon, and has two different responses. Think of it like the left and right buttons on your computer mouse and you get the idea. This just adds another layer of functionality to your touch screen, and it’s very useful indeed. Apple do use a different kind of tech than other manufacturers, meaning that resolution numbers are a bit misleading. This is a 750 x 1334 pixel display, giving around 326 PPI, which pales in comparison to the numbers on a Samsung Galaxy. However, this is an Apple Retina display, and those numbers say nothing about that. In practice, the LED backlit screen is perfect, it’s clear and sharp and has great colour reproduction too. The display on the iPhone 6S is simply one of the best we’ve ever seen, it’s flawless. From HD video to picture editing and gaming, and everything in between, this is a display that’s a joy to behold.
Again, you can’t really compare performance numbers on an iPhone with those on other makes, but Apple rarely releases their numbers anyway. What we do know is that Apple are saying their new A9 chip set makes the 6S up to 70% faster than the iPhone 6. That’s a pretty noticeable difference, especially when booting up and opening apps. You’re getting 2 GB of RAM too, making multi tasking better, and all adding up to a phone that’s super fast and responsive. Obviously, being an Apple device you’re running iOS. In this case it’s the brand new iOS9. Yes, you’re getting the intuitiveness that you love, but you’re also getting a few new additions. We’re fans of the new icon that allows you to go back to a previous app, as well as to a new low power mode that helps save precious battery juice. Bottom line? Performance is excellent here. The 6S is fast, responsive and intuitive, and what more could you possibly ask for?
On to those cameras then, and both cameras on the 6S have had upgrades. The front video calling camera is now a 5 MP device, and comes with screen flash as well. This means that the screen of the device can briefly flash brighter acting as a traditional flash for the front cam. Moving to the rear and you’re getting a nice 12 MP camera (as opposed to the standard 8 MP cam on the iPhone 6), with amazing 4608 x 2592 resolution. There are all the usual extras as well, including: dual LED flash, phase detection autofocus, 4K video recording and panorama mode too. Add all of this up and you’ll find that the 6S takes incredible pictures. Whether you’re a pro or just like to dabble, you’ll be getting some of the best pics around with the iPhone 6S!
What else do you need to know about the iPhone 6S? Well, it does come with the fingerprint scanner that’s more or less standard for Apple now. You’re getting Apple Pay as well, Apple’s digital wallet and payment service. The camera setting have been tweaked to include something called Live Photo. This mode lets you take a photo as well as a video. The video begins recording 1.5 secs before you take that pic and ends 1.5 secs after, giving you both a normal picture and a short moving picture too. Last, but not least, Siri has had a few upgrades as well. She’s now capable of understanding and acting on more complex instructions than ever before. Rather than just saying “find pictures of mum” you can now say “find pictures of mum from last year,” for example.

If you want a top end flagship phone then the iPhone 6S is one of the best devices that we’ve seen this year. With amazing performance, a fantastic screen and upgraded cameras too it’s difficult to fault the 6S. It’s a beautiful and powerful mobile, which is what most of us are looking for.
Connectivity wise you’re getting all the obvious suspects: WiFi, 4G, 3G and Bluetooth, though Apple say their advanced LTE tech means that WiFi is faster than ever. Internally you’ll get 16 GB of storage on this model, and no SD card slot, so you can’t add more. Take advantage of the iCloud option, Apple’s online storage service, and this shouldn’t be a problem though.
So, what don’t we like? We would like to be able to add storage, but this has never been an option from Apple, so complaining about it is useless. A lower price tag would be good, but you’re really getting a great device for your money. On the whole, this is a great phone, the best iPhone we’ve seen, and maybe the best phone of the year. The iPhone 6S should be more than enough to satisfy even a demanding customer!
