Who doesn’t love a new iPhone? But an S series might not be your first choice, after all is it going to be that much different from the regular model? In this case, yes, yes it is. The new iPhone 6S is a big step up from the iPhone 6, with upgrades just about everywhere. It’s got a bunch of cool new features too! Apple are out to prove that they’re the king of the market for a reason, and the iPhone 6S is indisputable proof! Why do you want one? Where to start? There’s the new 3D touch technology on the display, there’s an improved chip set, there are even upgraded cameras. Oh, and you get tons of internal storage as well. For those that are looking at top end phones, then the iPhone 6S is certainly that. It doesn’t come cheap, but it could be a worthy investment.
The 6S already looks familiar, it’s got rounded curves, slim lines and the minimalistic style that Apple are famous for. It’s not as thin as you might be used to (due to that new screen tech), but that just means that it’s sturdier. And with a full glass and metal unibody build you’re getting the feel of premium quality. Looks aside, you’re also getting some impressive internals. There’s a whole new chip set and operating system version, there are improved cameras and new display technology. And all this means that the iPhone 6S is bigger, better and faster than even before. Top end phones are pricey, and this is no exception, but you’re getting a lot of power for your money. Even the most demanding of users will be satisfied with performance on the 6S, and fashionistas will love it.
If you’re looking for power, then the 6S is going to deliver. We don’t have specific numbers (mostly because Apple never release them), but we can tell you that Apple are promising that the new A9 chip set is up to 70% faster than that of the iPhone 6. And in truth, that extra speed is pretty noticeable, especially when booting up or switching apps. There’s also a full 2 GB of RAM (the iPhone 6 had only 1 GB), so you’re getting superior multi tasking as well. Of course, being an Apple device, the 6S runs iOS. This is the newest OS version though (iOS9), which is pretty cool. Yes, you get the intuitive interface that you love, but you get a couple of new things too. We like the low power mode that helps save precious battery juice, but our favourite addition is the new back to previous app icon which makes switching apps a breeze. In terms of performance you’re really getting stellar speeds. The combo of the new chip set and more RAM makes the 6S extremely responsive and fast, so there are no worries on this front!
Probably the biggest selling point on the 6S is going to be the display, which is a 4.7 inch screen. That’s smaller than, say, the Galaxy S6, but it does make the 6S more portable. But it’s the 3D touch tech that’s most interesting. This screen can now tell the difference between you touching something and pressing something, and responds differently to each. It’s kind of the same as the right and left buttons on a computer mouse. This just makes your touch screen more useful than ever. Resolution specs don’t look great at first glance. The screen has 750 x 1334 pixels, so around 326 PPI. However, that doesn’t really tell you anything, since this is a Retina display with LED backlighting and IPS. In practice the display is actually one of the best we’ve seen, with superb colour reproduction, crisp, sharp lines and great viewing angles. From HD video to high end gaming, the display on the 6S reacts flawlessly. This really is one of the best displays on shelves right now, 3D tech aside, and it’s one that’s a true pleasure to look at.
Maybe the biggest surprise on the 6S is that the cameras have been upgraded, which is the first time this has happened to an iPhone for a few years. At the front there’s a 5 MP cam, more than good enough for FaceTime and selfies. It does have screen flash, which is cool since it lets the display of the phone light up to act as a flash for the front camera. At the rear the old 8 MP cam has gone, and there’s now a full 12 MP camera on board. You get a nice range of features too, including some very impressive 4608 x 2592 resolution specs, 4K video recording, phase detection autofocus, and a dual LED flash just to top things off. If you’re looking to take great pictures, then the iPhone 6S definitely delivers. Pro photographers and amateurs alike are going to love the camera upgrades here.
And we’re not done yet… There are a few other things worthy of note. You will be getting a fingerprint scanner, which means more security, of course, but it also means that you can use Apple Pay (Apple’s new digital wallet and payment service). There’s a new camera mode as well, which is pretty interesting. Called Live Photo this allows you to take a still photo and a moving video at the same time. By starting the video recording 1.5 seconds before taking a still photo and then stopping it 1.5 seconds after you get the best of both worlds: a mini movie AND a picture of an event. Finally, Siri has also seen a few upgrades, most notably that she’d now capable of understanding an acting upon much more complex instructions than before.

Apple lovers won’t be the only ones that are impressed with the new iPhone 6S. This is a true top end phone, with the performance and features to prove it. From those great new cameras to the 3D touch screen tech, there’s a lot to love here.
Connectivity is what we’d expect. You’re getting WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G and 3G. Though advanced LTE should mean that your WiFi and 4G speeds are faster than ever. You’re also getting a massive 128 GB of internal storage, which is a lot. There’s no SD card slot, but who needs to add extra memory when you’ve got this much internally?
Okay, truth time. Any complaints? Not really. Yes, the 6S is expensive, very expensive, but you’re really getting what you pay for. It doesn’t have an SD card slot, but you’ve got a bunch of memory to play with so it’s not really necessary. The bottom line is that this is an awesome device. It just is. If you want the best phone around, then you’re going to want to check out the new iPhone 6S!
