The moment we’ve all been anticipating is finally here, and the new iPhone model is rolling out. With Apple releasing new phones every year though, it’s getting tough to satisfy fans. But the good news is that the iPhone 6S is the best yet, and in a big way. With a host of upgrades and cool new features, this is a phone that’s sure to please. Apple are the king of phones, after all, and that makes the iPhone 6S one of the best devices on shelves right now. Why do you want one? There’s a lot of reasons. A new chip set that makes the 6S the fastest iPhone we’ve ever seen, new cameras that mean fantastic pictures every time, and an innovative new 3D touch screen that gives you even more control over your device. There’s really a lot to love here and Apple fans will be more than happy, as will many non-Apple lovers…
The iPhone 6S is a little thicker than most recent iPhone models, and that’s down to the new screen tech. That aside though, this is the Apple design that you know and love. Sleek lines, smooth corners, the 6S is the epitome of style. It’s full glass and metal unibody means that it’s light and durable, but also that it has a real premium feel as well. Under the hood you’re getting a lot to be pleased with as well. There’s a new chip set for more speed, new camera upgrades for better pictures, and a new screen tech for more functionality. And, of course, there are a few added extras thrown into the mix as well. As Apple’s new flagship phone, the iPhone 6S isn’t going to come cheap. But this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. The 6S is an amazing phone, fast, stylish and loaded with cool tech. And it’s a device that everyone is going to love.
Screen tech, that’s the big selling point of the 6S, so what is this whole 3D touch thing anyway? In basic terms the display is able to detect the difference between you touching the screen and pressing it, and reacts differently to each. Sort of in the same way as your computer mouse has two buttons, the display on the 6S can do two different things depending on how you touch it, meaning you get a lot more possibilities. This is pretty useful, though it feels strange at first. Other than that, this is a 4.7 inch display, which isn’t huge, but typing is comfortable, and it does mean that the 6S is very portable. Resolution numbers don’t mean much here, though it’s a 750 x 1334 pixel screen which works out to around 326 PPI. However, it’s an LED backlit Retina display with IPS, and that means that the numbers don’t tell the whole story. In reality, the display is sharp, crisp and clear, with amazing viewing angles and excellent, true colour reproduction. This is, hands down, one of the best displays on the market right now. It would be tough to find a better picture. For whatever you’re doing, gaming, emailing, video watching, you’re going to find the iPhone 6S a pleasure to look at.
Internally, you’re getting the new A9 chip set. Apple generally don’t release numbers for their processors, and the numbers wouldn’t tell you much anyway (due to different tech being used by other manufacturers). We can say that Apple tell us the 6S is up to 70% faster than the iPhone 6, and that that difference is very noticeable. Add in 2 GB of RAM, where the iPhone 6 had only 1 GB, and you’re looking at a phone that’s lightening fast and great at multi tasking too. Obviously this is an iOS phone, and out of the box you’re getting the new iOS9 version. This will be very familiar to regular Apple users, and intuitive and easy to learn for the uninitiated. You are getting a few new things though. There’s a low power mode now for saving battery juice. And there’s also a “back to previous app” icon, to make going back and forth between apps easier than ever. In short, performance here is excellent. The iPhone 6S is super fast, it’s responsive to input, and it can take everything you throw at it and beg for more. If you’re a demanding user, then this is the phone for you.
Apple haven’t given us a real camera upgrade for a long time, so maybe it’s no surprise that they’ve chosen the iPhone 6S to display the best Apple cameras yet. At the front you’re getting a 5 MP cam, which is fine for selfies and FaceTiming. It also features screen flash, which allows the display of your phone to act as a flash for that front camera. Behind there’s a new 12 MP camera, a big step up from the old 8 MP cams that Apple stuck with for a long time. And again, there’s some nice features. You’ll get phase detection autofocus, panorama mode, 4K video recording, and dual LED flash too. Plus, resolution here is a very impressive 4608 x 2592. Love taking pictures? Then you’re going to love the new camera upgrades on the 6S. Clear, bright, perfect pictures, every time.
There are a few other things that are worthy of mention here. You do get a fingerprint scanner, which has been standard on the last couple of models. You also get access to Apple Pay, which is the new digital wallet and payment service from Apple. There’s a new camera mode, which Apple are calling Live Photo too, which is pretty neat. This let’s you take a short video and a picture at the same time. The video starts recording, after 1.5 seconds the picture is taken, and after another 1.5 seconds the video stops recording. You get the still photo, and a sort of 3 second moving photo too. Finally, Siri has had some work done as well. She now responds to more complex instructions than ever, making her even more useful.

If you’re looking for a top end phone, then the iPhone 6S is an excellent choice. With fast speeds, one of the best displays on the market, great cameras and some nice added extras, the 6S is a real top of the line device. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s good looking as well. In terms of desirability, the 6S is going to be very, very popular.
What about connectivity? It’s what you’d expect: WiFi and Bluetooth, 3G and 4G. You should be seeing slightly faster WiFi and 4G speeds though, thanks to advanced LTE tech. Internally you’re getting a monstrous 128 GB of memory, though there’s no SD card slot, so you won’t be able to add any more storage should you need it.
Right, what don’t we like? Um… Well, the 6S is a bit pricey, but then, it’s a top end, top quality device. Usually we prefer an SD card slot, but in this case with 128 GB of memory included it seems petty to quibble over that. Really, we love pretty much everything about the iPhone 6S, and think that you will too. This is a top contender for phone of the year.
