About the iPhone 6 Plus 128GB Space Grey

Apple’s iPhones are one of the most iconic brands on today’s market, and as of now there’s a whole new side to the range. The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s first phablet, which combines the functions of a phone with the larger screen of a tablet. It’s got great display specs as well as being a full upgrade from the old 5S model, and that means that this is going to be a high demand item for most shoppers.

Why should you get one? We could say because it’s got a 5.5 Retina display, or because with 128 GB of internal memory it’s the biggest storage device around. But on the whole we’re going to go with because it’s beautiful, a true testament to Apple’s design credentials. The iPhone 6 Plus is breaking new ground for Apple, and it’s a fantastic mobile with some serious specs.

Key Features on the iPhone 6 Plus

If you crossed an iPhone and an iPad you’d probably get something very much like the iPhone 6 Plus. The neatly tapered edges with front glass that extends all the way over give the 6 Plus the look of the iPad Air. And that thinness coupled with the light full metal body mean that even though this is a big device it still sits well in the hand. The biggest change? The power button has moved from the top of the phone to the right side, so you can reach it just a little more easily.

Design is obviously Apple’s forte, but under the hood there’s a fair amount of power as well. Performance on the iPhone 6 Plus is surprisingly decent, and there’s been a complete set of upgrades which sets the 6 Plus apart from the older iPhone 5S.

Apple fans have been begging for larger iPhone screens for years now, and Apple have finally given in to their demands. The result is the iPhone 6 Plus, which is bigger, better and faster than any other iPhone on the market. You can’t go wrong with this year’s biggest release.

The Engine

Let’s start with the basics. The iPhone 6 Plus runs a dual core 1.4 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and an Apple A8 chip set. Unimpressed? The numbers aren’t great, but then, that’s never really been Apple’s style. The truth is that user experience is more important than numbers, and the fact that the 6 Plus is responsive and speedy might lead you to believe (probably rightly) that other phones make you pay for power that you don’t use.

For the OS, Apple have given the iPhone 6 Plus the new iOS 8. It’s familiar, it’s intuitive, but iOS 8 also has a few new things to show off. The native keyboard now proves itself a lot smarter with far better predictive text abilities, and Siri can now appropriately recognise music tracks. Even things like email and SMS have had new functions added and are better than before.

In terms of numbers the iPhone 6 Plus isn’t that great. In terms of performance, which most of us would consider far more important, it really is good. There might be faster phones around, but there are none that can match the iPhone’s ease of use.

The King of Displays

When it comes to screens, the iPhone 6 Plus really ticks all the boxes. It’s got a full five and a half inch display, so there’s tons of room for typing and watching videos. Want to use that big screen one handed? No problem. Simply hit the sensor twice and what’s on screen will shrink down into the bottom corner so that you can reach it with your thumb. Smart, right?

Visually, the screen is a stunner too. It’s a Retina display, so you’re getting wide viewing angles and awesome colour reproduction. Resolution wise it’s HD, with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, working out to around 401 PPI. Pictures are sharp and well defined.

Big screen phones often miss out when it comes to resolution, but that isn’t the case here. The iPhone 6 Plus has a fantastic screen, and one that any phone would be proud of.

Taking Snaps

Whilst the numbers for camera specs don’t exactly inspire confidence, the resulting pictures from the 6 Plus are actually very good indeed. At the front you’re getting a 1.2 MP FaceTime cam, with improved facial recognition and focussing and HDR capability. But it’s the rear cam that you’ll be using the most.

At the back there’s only an 8 MP camera. But, and this is a big but, the inclusion of a new sensor (which equals faster focussing) and improved digital noise reduction, plus the default HDR setting means that the 6 Plus takes amazing pictures.

On the feature side you’ll get panorama and burst modes, as well as face recognition and optical image stabilisation. You’ll also be getting the dual tone LED flash that Apple premiered on the iPhone 5S, so there’ll be good colour reproduction even in low light. All in all, you’re getting good snaps, and the 6 Plus’s camera is nothing to be ashamed of.

Awesome Connectivity

There have been a few changes to connectivity on the 6 Plus. Firstly, Apple have enabled both LTE and WiFi calling, which is new. Then connectivity speeds are faster too. According to Apple WiFi will be up to three times faster on the 6 Plus than is standard, and LTE speeds are up to 150 Mbps, which is impressive.

There’s also full support for NFC, a tech that’s generally used for digital payment systems. Apple is launching its own digital wallet system, but so far it’s only available in the US. It can’t be long until the UK has access too though.

Storing Your Stuff

With 128 GB of internal memory at your fingertips, finding space to store your stuff is never really going to be an issue. That’s the equivalent of around 30,000 music tracks, so you’re going to be able to carry your whole music collection around with you, and a fair few pictures too.

When a phone gets low on memory it often slows down, but you won’t have that problem with the iPhone 6 Plus. This is the largest available phone memory on the market.

iPhone 6 Plus 128GB Space Grey Review

For their first attempt at a phablet Apple have done an amazing job. The iPhone 6 Plus has not only a huge screen, but also some decent internals as well, not to mention the sleek and sexy design that you’d expect from Apple.

Then there’s the rest: fingerprint sensor, iCloud storage, Apple’s awesome scheduling apps, and of course 3G, WiFi, 4G, and Bluetooth too.

Any complaints here? Well, the 6 Plus is a bit pricey for our wallets. Having said that though, for a phone with this much internal memory that price tag isn’t incredibly unreasonable. In the end, the iPhone 6 Plus really is worth paying for, and it’s certain to be a great investment.
