About the iPhone 6 64GB Space Grey

Apple traditionally upgrade their iPhone line once a year, and this year is no exception. Given this, it can be difficult to really tell the difference between successive iPhone generations. But with new design as well as a whole bunch of upgrades, the newest iPhone 6 model is a clear upgrade from last year’s iPhone 5S.

Why do you want it? Because screen specs are so much better, performance is faster than ever before, and added camera features mean even better mobile photography. If you’ve been wondering whether the iPhone 6 upgrade is really worth it, then the answer is a resounding yes. The newest iPhone incarnation is a fantastic handset, and one that’s more than worth its price.

The iPhone 6’s Key Features

The iPhone 6 is still absolutely recognisable as an iPhone, but design tweaks give it a profile of its own. Apple have gently rounded out the edges, giving the 6 the look of an HTC or Samsung, and it’s thin, light and firm in the hand. It’s a full metal build phone too, so it’s got that top quality look and feel to it.

Not only is this a good looking model, but it’s got some nice performance specs too. There have been a whole set of upgrades, from CPU to chip set, from co-processor to camera. Plus, the whole thing is running Apple’s new iOS 8.

If you’ve been worried about justifying this new purchase, then rest easy. The iPhone 6 is a vastly improved model, and one that will give you so much more than the older 5S model. It’s going to be at the top of most people’s wishlists this year, and with good reason. The iPhone 6 is one of the best iPhones that we’ve ever seen.

Take a Look at That Screen

The iPhone 5S was notorious for fiddly typing, and had one of the smallest top end phone screens on the market. That’s probably why Apple have chosen to ramp up the size on the display of the iPhone 6. You’re now getting a 4.7 inch screen, which is perfect for not only clear viewing and comfortable typing, but also small enough that you can use it with only one hand.

Size isn’t everything though, and the iPhone 6 has had some serious display improvements aside from being bigger. Resolution is  up, now standing at 730 x 1334 pixels (coming out to be around 326 PPI), so your display is clear and sharp. And it’s a full HD Retina display too, for excellent colour reproduction and wide viewing angles.

The bottom line is that the iPhone 6 has an amazing screen. From HD video to web pages, presentations to game playing, the huge improvements that Apple have given the 6 screen wise make it a pleasure to look at.

Engines and Operating Systems

We’re all looking for a phone that has good performance, and that means having speed and responsiveness. With a dual core 1.4 GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM and an A8 Apple chip set, the iPhone 6 certainly isn’t going to let you down on the snappiness front. Performance is excellent for everyday use, though this is far from the most powerful phone on the market.

The user interface is excellent too, and the new iOS 8 brings a lot to the table. The biggest additions are probably the new predictive keyboard and added functionalities for Siri, your personal assistant, but nearly every function on iOS 8 has had some kind of overhaul, including email and SMS programmes.

Spec numbers can get confusing, but what’s important here is really user experience rather than what those numbers mean and how they stack up. The iPhone 6 has excellent performance, and iOS 8 has a bunch of cool new features. That means that the 6 gets a clear thumbs up from most users.

Better Pictures Too

We’ve got to start with the bad news. Apple have not given the iPhone 6 higher camera resolution, there’s still a normal 8 MP rear facing camera on board. What Apple did do though was to improve camera features, which in the end does result in better photos.

For example, there’s now standard dual tone flash, so colours are natural even in low light, as well as an improved sensor for faster focus and better filtering for digital noise. On top of that you get panorama mode (capable of getting up to 43 MP per picture) as well as burst mode and digital image stabilisation. And the cherry on the top? HDR is now default on the rear cam.

Up front on the FaceTime camera there’s also HDR, plus better focussing and better facial recognition. So whichever camera you’re going to be using you’re going to be getting far better pictures than you would from the iPhone 5S, and that’s what an upgrade is all about.

And the Rest…

There are some new features that really deserve a mention  but don’t fit into the above categories. Connectivity on the iPhone 6 is way better, for example. Apple have added both VoLTE and WiFi calling, as well as changing protocols so that LTE has speeds of up to 150 Mbps and WiFi is up to three times faster.

There’s an improved co-processor (M8 now, rather than the M7 seen on the iPhone 5S), which includes a barometric sensor. And for those interested in digital payment systems, the iPhone 6 has full NFC support.

Sick of charging your iPhone all the time? Not to worry, the iPhone 6 has improved battery life too. It’s now getting around ten hours per charge over 3G and 4G, and about eleven hours per charge over WiFi.

iPhone 6 64GB Space Grey Review

In all honesty it’s not worth buying every upgrade that comes out on the market, but Apple have done a fabulous job with the iPhone 6, it’s clearly better than the iPhone 5S in every way. With its bigger screen, better camera and newer operating system, you really couldn’t ask more out of a new model.

You’ll be getting all the normal Apple stuff too, including their awesome scheduling software, 4G and Bluetooth and everything else that you’d expect to see in a phone. Plus that 64 GB of internal memory too.

Any complaints? The iPhone 6 does take great pictures, but we really would like some more camera resolution. But that lack of camera resolution seems a small price to pay for all the other great features and improvements that we get on the iPhone 6, so we’re not going to complain too much. This is another stellar release from Apple, and one that’s really worth its price.
