Apple are one of the biggest names on the mobile market, and their iPhones are huge sellers and absolutely unmistakable. But with new models coming out every year, can the company really give us a new phone with a difference? The answer is absolutely yes, and the iPhone 6 just goes to prove that. A huge upgrade to the old iPhone 5S, the iPhone 6 is not only beautiful, but powerful too.
Why are we excited about the upgrade? Because we get a larger screen, tons more power, a faster camera, a better battery, the list is really endless. And the new, smoother design of the iPhone 6 is an eye pleaser too. The iPhone 6 is a fantastic device, and just goes to show that Apple isn’t only about appearances.
Okay, so the iPhone is pretty unmistakeable, Apple’s trademark design means that you can spot an iPhone from a mile away. But the iPhone 6 has been tweaked. It’s rounder, softer and thinner as well, like Apple have smoothed out an older model iPhone. That means that the iPhone 6 is light, easy to hold and rests well in the hand. This really is a sexy phone, and is a class above the iPhone 5S.
Get under that metal casing though and you’re getting some impressive specs too, plus all the great special features that you’d expect from Apple. With upgrades on pretty much every level, from CPU to camera to battery, the iPhone 6 really is a worthy upgrade.
Combine the new, sleek design and lots of cool specs and what do you have? A seriously top end new iPhone. The iPhone 6 isn’t just a pretty face, it’s got everything you need in a phone and more, and there’s no doubt that this is the best we’ve seen yet from Apple.
One of the main complaints that we’ve had about recent model iPhones is that the screen sizes are just so small, but Apple have stepped in and made the decision to go big, a little late maybe but at least the iPhone 6 is now a competitor on the market. You’re getting a 4.7 inch screen, so more than big enough for viewing, but also easy to use one handed, making it a great compromise between form and function.
Resolution wise you’re looking at 730 x 1334 pixels, which breaks down to around 326 PPI. Colours are clear and bright, and you’ll notice that pictures are just that little bit more defined than on the older iPhone, with nice, sharp lines.
Screens are one of the most important features on a top end smart phone, and the new larger size that we’re getting on the iPhone 6 is very welcome indeed. All in all, this is a top notch viewing experience.
Internally, the iPhone 6 is a strong upgrade to the iPhone 5S. It’s running a dual core 1.4 GHz processor with an Apple A8 chip set and 1 GB of RAM. For you that means that it’s responsive and more than fast enough for average users, though not quite the fastest phone on the market. It’s unlikely that you’re going to notice any kind of lag here.
Operating system? iOS of course, but the shiny new iOS 8. What’s new? A whole bunch. From increased functions for Siri, your personal assistant, to a new native keyboard and even new features on classic programmes like SMS and email, iOS is faster and more intuitive than ever.
Sure, the internal specs on the iPhone 6 aren’t the huge numbers that we’re seeing elsewhere (on the Samsung Galaxys, for example), but for the average phone user the power behind the iPhone 6 is going to be way more than enough. It’s snappy, speedy and easy to use too.
The iPhone 6 sports an 8 MP camera, and before you panic at that, hear us out. Alright, 8 MP is way below standard for a top end phone, but Apple understand that megapixels aren’t everything. More megapixels will let you capture more detail, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you get a better picture.
What Apple have done is upgrade the sensor on the rear facing camera, making focus time faster, as well as the flash, resulting in more natural looking colours. You get digital image stabilisation, as well as panorama and burst modes, face recognition, and all the other bells and whistles that you’d expect to see. Oh, HDR is default too.
The front facing cam gets an upgrade too, it’s now HDR capable and gets better focus and face detection. Apple’s iPhone cameras take great pictures, so don’t let that low MP number fool you. You’re going to be taking amazing shots.
Apple don’t give out spec numbers on battery power, but the iPhone 6 definitely has a lot more juice than older iPhone models. It’s rated for up to ten hours on 3G and 4G, and up to eleven hours using WiFi, which is pretty good for an iPhone, and streets ahead of the iPhone 5S.
The iPhone 6 also gets even faster LTE speeds, with a max of 150 Mbps downloads. Then you get calling over WiFi (which has long been missing on the iPhone), as well as VoLTE (voice of LTE calling). And speaking of WiFi, new protocols promise WiFi speeds up to three times faster than standard.
The iPhone 6 is packed full of special features. It’s got an update on that much touted M7 co-processor that the iPhone 5S had, now it’s the M8 and there’s a new sensor attached, a barometer. You’re also getting the addition of NFC, which will basically allow for better payment systems using your mobile phone (Apple are already working on a whole new digital wallet system).
With so much to offer, it’s tough not to be tempted by the iPhone. It’s not only attractive and pretty powerful, but it’s got tons of added extras as well.

The iPhone 6 really is a step up for Apple. After so long complaining about small screen sizes and poor specs, the company have really catered to what consumers are looking for. Good power, bigger screen, more powerful battery, they’ve ticked all of our wish list boxes.
Obviously you’re going to be getting all the usual Apple suspects as well. It’s a 4G, 3G, WiFi capable device, Bluetooth capable, etc. etc. But what really sells the iPhone 6 is its cool special features.
Is there anything we’d change? We would like to see a removable cover, which would let us both change the battery and maybe even insert an extra memory card. But we’re not going to quibble over details. This is a great iPhone, and if you’re and Apple fan, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on it.
