You might think that it’s tough to be surprised by an iPhone these days, after all we’re all more than familiar with what Apple has to offer. But the new iPhone 6 proves that Apple still have a lot to give when it comes to innovation on the mobile market. The latest iPhone is fast, sleek and has tons of storage, and it’s a clear winner in our opinion.
What excites us? We’ve finally got a bigger screen. Not only that, but we get a full spectrum upgrade and a new operating system version as well. It’s difficult not to be impressed by the iPhone 6, and we’re totally ready to stand in line to get our hands on one. Apple have done a fantastic job here, and the 6 is a worthy successor to the old 5S handset.
The iPhone 6 looks the same, but different. Mostly because the new design has been tapered at the edges, rather than squared off like on the old iPhone 5, and the power button has had a change of location too, it’s now on the right hand side of the phone. But we’re still getting a full metal body, which keeps the 6 nice and light, and really gives it a high quality feel, unlike many of the plastic body phones we’re seeing these days.
Under the cosmetics though, the iPhone 6 has a fair amount of power for an iPhone. Every system you can imagine has been upgraded, giving the 6 the best performance of any iPhone yet. Oh, you can add in a new OS version too.
Apple has been losing a lot of market share recently to Android. The iPhone 6 might be the model that’s going to change that though. With so many huge upgrades coupled with stylish design, the iPhone 6 is going to please the iOS fanbase, but it will also go a long way to persuading Android fans that iPhones still have a lot to offer.
Let’s go beneath that tough metal skin and find out what keeps the iPhone 6 ticking. There’s a nice 1.4 GHz dual core processor on board, which isn’t tremendously fast but is more than enough for everyday use. There’s also 1 GB of RAM and a new A8 Apple chip set. Essentially, this means that you’re going to find the iPhone 6 responsive and snappy, and there are definitely no complaints from us on the performance side of things.
A that new OS version? IOS 8 has had some pretty nifty tweaks. We love that Siri now recognises music well, and the new keyboard that’s native to many apps is excellent, with much improved text prediction. Even email and SMS have had changes implemented, making iOS 8 feel and act more smoothly and cleanly than the old iOS 7.
All of this comes down to user experience. And whilst all iPhones are intuitive and easy to use, the iPhone 6 is faster, simpler and better than ever before. Whether you’re a high end user or a novice, the 6 is going to fit the bill.
Absolutely the most noticeable difference on the iPhone 6 is its size. Apple have gone up to a 4.7 inch screen, and we’re big fans. Why? Because viewing is good and typing is easy, but we can also still use the iPhone 6 with one hand, and let’s face it, most of us use our phones one handed at least some of the time.
The 6’s display gets an overhaul too. Now it’s getting 730 x 1334 pixel resolution, which on a 4.7 inch screen means you’re getting 326 PPI. Pictures have nice, sharp lines and definition is excellent. Not only that, this is a Retina high definition display, so you’re getting wider viewing angles and better colour reproduction too.
All in, the iPhone 6’s display is top of the line for and iPhone, and video watching, reading and even picture editing are hugely improved on this latest release.
Alright, Apple never offer additional memory options. There’s no SD card slot, you can’t add external memory. But we’re talking about a phone with a massive 128GB of internal memory here, and that’s a whole lot of remembering.
There are going to be no issues with downloading big apps, tons of music or storing your photos on this model. 128GB is as big as phone memories get, and it’s well worth spending a little extra to make sure you never run out of storage space.
Let’s start up front with the FaceTime camera. It’s a 1.2 MP camera, which is the same as on the iPhone 5S. However this time you’re getting better focussing and facial recognition, as well as HDR ability.
Turning the phone over, there’s a rear facing 8 MP camera, which isn’t incredibly high resolution these days. But a new sensor (for faster focus), dual tone flash (for more natural colours in low light) and default HDR all mean that the iPhone 6 takes incredible photos.
You’ll also find that you get digital image stabilisation, face recognition, panorama mode for up to 43 MP of resolution and burst mode too. And the iPhone 6 reduces digital noise, meaning less distortion in your snaps.
The iPhone 6 has such a lot to give. It’s got better battery power than the iPhone 5S (10 hours on 3G/4G, 11 hours over WiFi). It’s got WiFi calling AND VoLTE. Connection speeds are faster, with LTE getting up to 150 Mbps and WiFi being almost three times faster than standard.
You’ll get a fingerprint sensor, so your phone has high security. You’ll also get NFC, though you won’t be able to pay through Apple’s digital payment system just yet, it’s only been released in the US so far. And there’s even a barometer on the upgraded M8 co-processor.

Apple has many, many fans and we suspect that the iPhone 6 is going to earn them a fair few more. This is a huge upgrade, and that bigger screen in particular is going to lure a lot of people back to iOS from Android.
Obviously, you’re getting a 4G phone, and there’s Bluetooth as well as the standard Apple apps like calendar and an iTunes connection as well.
Anything negative? Yes, we’d like a higher resolution camera, but we can’t deny that even without it pics look great on the iPhone 6. There’s really not a lot to complain about here. Apple have given us everything we asked for on the iPhone 6 and then more. If you’re looking to get this year’s hot new phone, then it’s got to be the iPhone 6.
