The latest iPhone from Apple sports a body that is quite similar to its earlier iterations. The metallic look can trick your judgment on its mass, because this phone is incredibly light. The iPhone 5s is powerful, stronger and belies its weight. The phone retains some of the features of the previous models, such as the presence of a rounded volume button; however, it has a revamped home button, which has a surprise wrapped underneath it. The dual speakers still take up the bottom portion of the phone adjacent to the headset jack and the lightning port. The space for the nanoSIM rests on the right side of the device and the left side of the phone sports the volume rocker and the camera button.
The screen stretches across 4 inches, similar to other iterations, and is powered by Retina Display technology. The display supports a maximum resolution of 1138X640 pixels and delivers vivid, bright and crisp visuals. Even when zoomed in to the maximum levels, the texts, visuals and images appear sharp and reveal even the tiniest details precisely.
The camera remains the same in the iPhone 5s. It is still an 8 mega-pixel camera, supports 1080p resolution and has low-lighting adjustment and image stabilization options. These options enhance the image quality even when captured under low-lit environment and eliminate shakes and blurs. Another great thing about the iPhone 5’s camera is the presence of dual flash LEDs. These analyze and determine the ambient colour temperature and strike accordingly. This results in the captured images appearing more natural and colourful. The Facetime, or the front camera, has a resolution of 1.2MP and supports 720p resolution. The cameras are capable of capturing pictures while videos are being recorded.
Any device that sports an A7 processor is bound to perform better and faster. The phone runs on a dual core A7 processor at 1.3GHz. With a RAM of 1GB, applications and tasks on the phone are handled smoothly with minimal or no glitches at all. Regardless of whether the user is launching apps, toggling between them or multi-tasking, the phone handles them perfectly. The device is also powerful in terms of supporting high-end games. The quad core chipset that powers the device’s graphical unit offers stunning graphics and delivers PlayStation or Xbox style graphics allowing users to completely immerse in the games.
The presence of an M7 processor means extended battery life. Purposely designed to lend support to the A7 processor, the M7 takes up the responsibility of handing data from motion sensor devices like the accelerometer, gyro, compass and the like. Since the work is divided quite equally, the phone works faster and smoother. This results in the phone’s lifespan being increased to a significant level, thereby living up to the claims of the company.
One of the most interesting and convenient additions in the iPhone 5s is its TouchID technology. Though information on Apple patenting a technology that would involve scanning of fingerprints emerged earlier on the internet, nobody was sure of how Apple would execute it. But, as usual, Apple has added the innovation it is known for, and has come with an encryption technology that is interesting, safe and more secure. Users of the iPhone 5s will no longer have to remember their passcodes and type in them to unlock their phones. All they have to do is just pull out their phones, press their thumb over the home button, underneath which lies the sensor, have their fingerprint scanned by the sensor and gain access to the device. It takes just 30 seconds for users to set up the process for the first time, and they can add up to 5 fingerprint imprints in their phones. Users can use any of them and unlock their devices.
Overall, the phone is a brilliantly developed smartphone with minimal issues. From the time the iPhone was unveiled in 2007, it has evolved, learning from mistakes and errors that the developers have made and taking them into serious consideration, and finally arriving in front of us as the iPhone 5s.

The ample 64GB memory means you can experience a huge number of applications without ever having to worry about storage space. The 5s has an excellent resolution at 1136 X 640 megapixels and due to its 64bit A7 processor, the phone is fast and multitasking is smooth and easy. We think iOS 7 is a big step up compared to earlier iterations and brings Apple more in line with Android in terms of slickness and usability.
TouchID is a great addition and even though it’s been described as gimmicky by some we found it fun to use and very reliable. We expect Apple to work on this feature even more in the future to allow for global payments.
Any bad bits? Well the screen size, could’ve been larger to bring it line with some of the other smartphone manufacturers who’ve had a lot of success with larger 5 inch + devices. But really it’s very hard to criticise the iPhone 5s as it’s easily the best iPhone to date.
