About the Pixel 128GB Silver

Google have been cooperating with various manufacturers to make phones for a while now, with mixed results. Their older Nexus line had some fantastic devices, as well as some miserable failures. But the new Pixel line is already starting to take the world by storm. Combining good looks and great performance, the Pixel is one of the hottest Androids around, more than capable of competing with the mighty Samsung Galaxy models.

Why should you be itching to get your hands on a Pixel? Yes, it looks great, yes, it performs well, but it’s also got great cameras, long battery life, and tons of other special features as well. If you’re in the market for a fantastic Android phone, then you really need to check out the Google Pixel, you won’t be disappointed!

Key Features on the Google Pixel

With its unibody glass and metal build (a first for a Google phone) the Pixel both looks and feels like a premium product. The edges are sharp, the corners slightly rounded, the profile slim line, and the whole package is smooth and sleek. The non removable back panel is interrupted only by a small indent for the camera lens and fingerprint scanner, and the Pixel feels solid and robust, sitting securely in your hand.

Aside from its cheeky good looks, the Pixel gets some nice internal upgrades too. There’s more power, more RAM, better cameras, a bigger battery, and a whole new chip set too. And since this is a Google phone you’ll get all those Android updates before anyone else does.

If you’re shopping for a new Android then you have a lot of choice on shelves, but the Pixel is one of the best. It’s got everything you could ask for in a phone and more too. Even the more picky shopper is going to love the Pixel, and it’s a great buy.

OS and Performance

You’re investing heavily in a top end phone, so you’re going to want excellent performance, and the Pixel delivers. Google usually don’t equip their phones with super high end processors, mostly because it’s unnecessary since Android is lightweight enough not to need immense power. So here you’re getting the new Snapdragon 821 chipset along with quad core processing and 4 GB of RAM. In reality this makes the Pixel very responsive indeed, and lightening fast too.

Rather obviously you’re getting an Android device, and you’re running the newest 7.1 Nougat version out of the box. This means all the intuitiveness and customisation options that you love, as well as better stability and speeds. Plus, since this is a Google device, you’ll get those updates long before anyone else does.

You’ll hear no complaints about performance here. The Pixel is fast and responsive, even when multitasking, and more than capable of doing anything that you need it to do, whether you’re a demanding user or not.

Screen Specs

The Pixel gets a five inch display, a tad smaller than the 5.2 inch screen seen on the older Nexus 5X, but that’s not a bad thing. Five inches is the ideal size, giving you more than enough room for viewing or typing whilst still being easy to use with one hand, and easy to slide into your pocket as well.

Resolution wise you’re getting a full HD display here. The Pixel has 1080 x 1920 pixels, so around 441 PPI, resulting in an image that’s sharp and well defined. This is also an AMOLED screen, so you’ve got bright, natural colour reproduction with white whites and the deepest of blacks.

Whatever you’re doing on your phone, from HD video watching to high end mobile gaming or simple web surfing, the display on the Pixel is perfect. It’s bright, clear, and fantastic to look at, and a true beauty.

And the Camera Set…

Everyone these days takes pictures with their phone, and the Pixel is going to be a real crowd pleaser when it comes to cameras. At the front there’s a nice 8 MP cam, which is high resolution for selfies and video calling. That front cam also gets an f/2.4 aperture and a 1/3.2” sensor, so pics are clear and detailed.

Moving around to the back and there’s a 12 MP affair, which isn’t the highest resolution. However, the Pixel makes up for that resolution by having an f/2.0 aperture and a 1/2.3” sensor, so pics are truly glorious. There’s also dual LED flash, phase detection and laser autofocus, face detection, touch focus, and all the other features you’d expect to see.

If you’re a budding photographer, then the Pixel is going to blow you away. Pictures here are astoundingly beautiful, with clear detail even in low light conditions. You’ll be more than happy snapping away with the Pixel.

The Special Features…

There are plenty of special features on the Pixel, but we should mention just a couple here. There is a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, which is extremely reliable in comparison to others we’ve seen, and gives added security. And the rear mounting makes it convenient and easy to use as well.

Battery life has been improved here too. There’s a big 1770 mAh Li-Ion battery on board that gives you around 26 hours of talk time per charge. And when it’s time to charge the Pixel, it’s got a reversible USB type C cable for faster charging.

Finally, this is the first phone that’s been built around Google’s new incarnation of the Assistant, the company’s competitor to Apple’s Siri. So you should have added convenience and help in all kinds of things, from scheduling to internet searching.

Pixel 128GB Silver Review

Google have been producing some amazing phones, and the Pixel is no exception. You’ll get good looks, fast, responsive performance, great cameras, and long battery life, as well as plenty of special features. This is a worthy investment, and if you’re looking for a great Android phone then you’ll be hard pressed to do better than the Pixel.

When it comes to connectivity, the options are more or less what you’d expect, so WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G. There’s a massive 128 GB of internal memory here, which is a lot, though there’s no SD card slot, so you can’t add any external memory later. Google do give you free, unlimited cloud storage for music and photos though.

Right, any complaints here? Not really. This is more expensive than past Google devices, but then it is a top end phone. The Pixel isn’t water resistant, something that we’re coming to expect from high end devices these days, but for most people that won’t be a deal breaker. All in all, we’re loving the Pixel, and think it’s one of the best Androids around right now. So if you’re in the market for a fantastic phone, then check out the Pixel!
