About the Galaxy S7 Edge Gold

Samsung has become synonymous with top end, cutting edge tech, but with such high price tags, are their flagship models really worth it? Last years Edge model, the S6, was rife with minor problems, but Samsung listened, and the result is the all new Galaxy S7 Edge, bigger and better than ever before. And with specs like these, that high price seems more than warranted.

Why should you want one? That always on edge display is going to be the biggest draw for most people, but the S7 Edge also has awesome power and camera specs, along with some nice added extras too. If you’re looking for the best of the best, then you might have found the phone you need in the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Key Features on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

The S7 Edge is slightly larger than last year’s S6 Edge (though smaller than the S6+ edition). Other than that though, you’re looking at familiar Samsung styling, with smooth, sleek lines and rounded corners, a metal band and glass front and back plates. That back plate is now curved, however, making the S7 Edge sit more firmly and securely in the palm.

So the S7 Edge looks the part, but what about internals? There’s no disappointment here. Octo core processing power, tons of RAM, awesome display specs and great new camera upgrades combine to make performance on the S7 Edge second to none. And then there’s that compatibility with Samsung’s new virtual reality tech too.

This is a flagship model, and both the price tag and the specs reflect that fact. But the Galaxy S7 Edge is probably the best phone that you’re going to find right now, and is a perfect choice for the more demanding user.

Performance Specs

Performance is going to be your first concern, and there’s no problems with that here. You’ve got octo core processing power (the S7 Edge runs two quad core processors, a 2.15 GHz and a 1.6 GHz model, simultaneously) and a massive 4 GB of RAM. Those two things combined mean that the S7 Edge is both speed and responsive, and multi tasking is a dream.

Obviously, as a Samsung Galaxy, this is an Android device. You’re running the newest Android version, 6.0 Marshmallow, out of the box. Along with the familiar customisation options and intuitive interface, Marshmallow also offers a bunch of new features, including a Doze mode to save battery power.

Performance is simply perfect. No matter what you’re doing on the S7 Edge, you’re going to be amazed at the speeds and responsiveness that you’re getting. It’ll be tough to find better performance than this on any other model.

That Screen

So, the display is going to be the S7 Edge’s main selling point, and there are a few aspects to cover. First up you’re getting 5.5 inches of real estate, so typing is comfortable though you can’t realistically use the device one handed. The Edge has been updated, and when touched it now extends out into the main display a little, making it easier to see and use when compared to the S6 Edge. Last, always on tech means that even when your phone is sleeping there’s a visible clock and notification centre, so you’ll always know what’s going on, even without waking your phone.

Moving on to resolution and you’re getting Quad HD, that means 1440 x 2560 pixels, giving you around 534 PPI. Couple that with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display and you’re getting crisp, sharp images with excellent colour reproduction and depth.

Hands down this is one of the best displays on the market. From high end gaming to HD video the screen on the S7 Edge is just a joy to look at, and the Edge itself really comes into its own here, proving far more useful than the Edge on the older S6 model.

Taking Pictures

So, there’s good news and bad news on the camera front. The forward facing cam is a 5 MP device, which is fairly standard and more than good enough for taking selfies or video calling, so no big deal there.

At the back though you’re getting a 12 MP camera, lower resolution than the S6 model. But that’s a little misleading. What Samsung have done is to add an f/1.7 apeture, new sensors, and 1.4 um pixel size, which all add up to create a photo that’s perfect, even in low light, and a clear improvement over the 16 MP cam on the S6 model.

For amateurs and pros alike the tweaks on the new S7 Edge’s cameras are perfect, it gets great shots, clear lines, good colour reproduction, and that’s what’s important in the end, number of MP aside.

Special Features

Obviously you’re getting a ton of added extras on this flagship device, and we can’t possibly list all of them, but there are a few things that deserve noting. The S7 Edge is waterproof, IP68 certified to be exact, which means that you don’t need to be quite so careful in the bath.

On board is a massive 3600 mAh battery, more than enough to get the standard user through the day, particularly when coupled with Android’s Doze feature. Should you need more juice, there’s Quick Charge 2.0 included, which should get you up to 60% in just thirty minutes, and there’s a wireless charging option as well.

Lastly, this is one of the first water cooled phones. The S7 Edge does have water inside the device, used to cool down the unit when you’re performing CPU intensive tasks. That means no overheating, even when you’ve been gaming for hours.

Galaxy S7 Edge Gold Review

Samsung are one of the leading phone manufacturers, and with the Galaxy S7 Edge it’s easy to see why. From it’s high end processing specs to it’s cutting edge screen, this device is one of the highest specced phones around right now. Performance is incredible, and even the cameras are pretty amazing.

In terms of connectivity, there are no surprises. You’re getting 3G, 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth. You’ve got a choice of two models, with either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory, but there is an SD card slot so you can add up to 200 GB of external storage if necessary.

Time for our complaints, and… we don’t really have any. Some might be disappointed that the S7 Edge doesn’t offer USB-Type C charging, but for us that just means we don’t need to buy a bunch of new phone chargers. On the whole, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is as close to perfection as we’ve seen, and it’s a fantastic device. If you want the best phone around, then you’re going to want to check out the S7 Edge!
