Samsung have long been battling for their place at the top of the mobile phone market, and the new Galaxy S6 just might be the model that seals the deal. There’s serious power under that good looking shell, and it looks like Samsung have been paying attention to their critics, because the S6 blows the older S5 model out of the water.
What do you have to look forward to? There’s just so much. The brilliant screen, the massive processor, the beautiful design. This is a serious smart phone, and isn’t for the faint of heart. For those who are looking for the best of the best when it comes to a mobile, the Galaxy S6 should really be your number one choice.
Plastic? No thanks. Samsung have finally bowed to the pressure and given us a full metal, unibody build mobile. It’s slim, it’s sexy, it’s sleek, and it’s beautiful. The S6 fills the hand perfectly, not feeling too big, despite the screen size. This, frankly, is an amazing looking phone, and stands up well against the iPhone and the HTC One series. Samsung phones haven’t always been lookers, but this one is stunning.
Getting below the surface and you’re seeing some serious power and specs. Of course, we’d really expect that from Samsung, but still, the S6 is a step up from the (already high-powered) S5. The combo of awesome power and awesome screen really means that the Galaxy S6 is going to be this year’s must have phone.
Flagship phones are high powered and have high price tags, but sometimes you just get what you pay for. The Galaxy S6 is an incredible device, one of the most powerful phones around, and it doesn’t hurt that it looks great too. Fancy a real super-phone? Then you need to check out the S6 for sure.
Are you ready for this? Sure? The Galaxy S6 is running an octo core processor. Yes, that means eight. There’s a quad core 1.5 GHz processor, plus a quad core 2.1 GHz processor, and a full 3 GB of RAM as well. That adds up to amazing speeds, instant responsiveness, and a phone that really kicks butt when it comes to performance.
Of course, the Galaxy S6 is an Android, as you’d expect from Samsung. And it will be running the newest 5.0 Lollipop version of the operating system right out of the box. That gives you more security and speed, as well as a host of special features, including great voice recognition software, and the ability to split your profile in two so you can keep a business profile and a personal one (and avoid sending naughty messages to your boss…).
We have nothing to say about the performance of the Galaxy S6 except WOW. It’s mind blowing. The S6 checks every box, passes every test with flying colours, and really, seriously performs better than nearly anything else out there.
Samsung just do screens well. There’s no question about that. And the Galaxy S6 is no exception. It comes with a large 5.1 inch screen, making it just a tad smaller and easier to handle than a phablet. But that screen space means awesome viewing, as well as far easier typing on pop up keyboards, though one handed use can get a little unwieldy.
You’re getting 1440 x 2560 pixels, meaning around 577 PPI. And that means sharp, clear pictures, with no hint of a pixel anywhere. Oh, and this is Samsung, so it’s a Super AMOLED screen, with excellent colour reproduction.
The display on the S6 is a joy to behold. It’s simply beautiful. This is one of the best displays on the market, and from HD video to photo editing, whatever you do on screen is going to be a pure pleasure with the Galaxy S6.
You’re getting a couple of great little camera devices on the Galaxy S6 too. The front facing cam is a solid 5 MP affair, better than most video chat cameras, and gives a solid performance. That means that your Facebook selfies are going to be some of the best around.
But it’s the 16 MP rear camera that’s the real star of the show. The rear cam is sporting a f1.9 aperture, which is a bit techie, but results in what Samsung are claiming to be a 34% increase in low light picture quality when compared to the older S5 model. You’re getting the usual bells and whistles too: LED flash, optical image stabilisation, panorama mode, HDR.
And we’ve got to say that the S6 takes some very fine pictures indeed. Okay, it’s not the huge 21 MP camera that we see on some flagship phones, but that aperture really does make a difference, and the S6 is great at taking low light shots. All in all, you’re going to get some excellent snaps from the S6.
Of course, the Galaxy S6 is loaded down with extras, so many of them that we couldn’t possibly address them all. There are a few stand outs that you should know about though. The S6 does have the same built in heart rate monitor as the S5 had. And there’s a fingerprint scanner too for added security, which could be good to have.
Wireless charging is a possibility, though not all models will have this. Charging wirelessly will, rather obviously, allow you to charge your mobile through the air, rather than having to connect it to a plug socket.
Charging might not be a big deal though, with the built in 2550 mAh li-ion battery. It is a non-removable battery, but Samsung are promising great battery life by using a more efficient chip set and processor, which will hopefully mean less phone charging for you.

We’ll admit to being a little disappointed with last year’s Samsung release, but the Galaxy S6 more than makes up for that. This is a stunner of a phone. Huge power, great performance, amazing screen, solid cameras, what more could you possibly ask for? This is a true flagship device, and one that’s really worthy of the Galaxy name.
You’re getting all the normal connectivity options: 4G, 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi. And whilst there is no SD card slot (which means you can’t add additional memory), Samsung are manufacturing 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB versions of the Galaxy S6. You will pay more for more memory though!
What don’t we like? Nothing really. Okay, the lack of SD card slot and the non-removable battery are kind of a pain, but then, we asked Samsung for a metal unibody build phone, and these are just the price we have to pay for that kind of design. On the whole, Samsung have done a brilliant job with the Galaxy S6, and it’s a phone that everyone is going to want to get their hands on.
