Samsung’s last couple of flagship releases haven’t been quite up to the standards that we’ve learnt to expect from the manufacturer, but the new Galaxy S6 has been completely redesigned from the ground up. And what a phone it is. Samsung are back at the top of their game, and the S6 has it all: looks, power and panache.
What should you be looking forward to? Performance that second to none, including some of the biggest power specs around, a fantastic display, and that stylish new design. If you’re looking for a true top of the line mobile then the Samsung Galaxy S6 is here to make all your dreams come true. It’s quite frankly a brilliant device.
No more flimsy plastic for Samsung. The Galaxy S6 is a full metal and glass unibody build, and it’s light, sleek and simply beautiful. It sits nicely in the hand, it’s got a slim profile, it really looks the part. And the combination of flashy glass exterior and metal casing means that this is a design triumph.
Not satisfied with a phone that’s just good looking? No problem. The Galaxy S6 more than has the specs to match that exterior. It’s a true upgrade to the old S5 model, and souped up processing power along with even more RAM will give you the super fast performance that you’ve been looking for.
We weren’t sure if Samsung could really play with the big boys any more, but the S6 just goes to prove that they can. Samsung are back, and bigger and better than ever. For those in the market for a top of the line mobile, the Galaxy S6 is a must have.
We expect to see a lot of power in a Samsung device, and the Galaxy S6 doesn’t disappoint on that score. It’s running octo core processing power, made up of a quad core 2.1 GHz processor as well as a quad core 1.5 GHz processor. Couple those with a full 3 GB of RAM, and you’re looking at a phone that’s incredibly fast and responsive, and more than capable of doing everything you need and more.
Of course, this is an Android device. It’s running the newest Android OS version, 5.0 Lollipop, out of the box. Along with improved graphics and better security and stability, 5.0 gives you new features such as the ability to keep separate profiles on your device, and it’s more intuitive than ever as well.
What to say about performance on the S6? It’s brilliant. That’s the bottom line. If you want a phone that’s fast, strong, reliable, responsive and that can complete any task, then the S6 is going to be the mobile for you. .
Samsung do screens well, they always have done, and the display on the S6 is a stunner. It’s a 5.1 inch screen, meaning that it’s plenty big enough for comfortable typing and great viewing, but not so big as to be unwieldy like phablet devices. One handed use can get a little difficult, but that’s more than made up for by the convenience of the larger display.
Screen specs are excellent. There are 1440 x 2560 pixels, giving a PPI of around 577. That means that you get a crisp and clear display. More than that though, the classic Samsung Super AMOLED screen material means brighter and better colour reproduction. And this is a match made in heaven. Picture quality on the S6 is honestly amazing.
Whether you’re into HD video or photo editing, or even just web browsing, the display on the Galaxy S6 is one of the best around. It really does blow other phones out of the water. In a smart phone the display is an essential ingredient, and with the S6 you’ll know that you’re getting the best of the best.
Camera specs on the S6 are also very satisfactory. We’re not looking at the greatest cameras around, but that’s not really what we’d expect from Samsung. Instead we’re looking at solid, good all round cameras. The front facing cam is a nice 5 MP, so perfect for selfies and video calling or Skype. But it’s the rear cam that most of us are really looking at.
At first glance a mere 16 MP rear facing camera might not sound that impressive. But MP aren’t everything. The S6 has an f1.9 aperture, which in basic terms makes it better than ever at taking low light pictures. In fact, thee S6 probably takes some of the best low light shots around. And, of course, you’re getting the obvious suspects too: LED flash, optical image stabilisation, HDR, face recognition, panorama mode etc.
For all but the most demanding of photographers, the cameras on the Galaxy S6 are going to be fine. You get great, clear shots, with plenty of detail and good colour, even when light conditions aren’t ideal. So click away, the results will speak for themselves.
The Galaxy S6 has a ton of extra features, as you’d expect in a high end flagship phone. There are three that are really worthy of special mention though. The first is that Samsung have once again included a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner, so you’ll have plenty of extra security if that’s a concern.
Secondly, there is now an included camera quick launch system. Pressing the home key twice from any screen will launch the camera app in less than a second, making it easier than ever to capture shots with little or no preparation.
Finally, the S6 also supports wireless charging. This means not having to carry your charger around with you if you’re headed somewhere that has a wireless charging spot (and there are more and more location options with this all the time). That’s a good thing, since due to the unibody build the battery on the S6 is non removable.

After a couple of years of mediocre releases, the Galaxy S6 has finally put Samsung back in the game. The innovative design, huge amounts of processing power, awesome display and a slew of special features all make the S6 a real top of the line device, and one that most people are going to love.
You’re getting 4G, 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth, obviously. And though there isn’t an included SD card slot (meaning you can’t add any extra memory), the S6 is available in 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB models. You will be paying a bit more if you fancy more memory, however.
Right, what don’t we like? Hmmm. Not much, to be honest. We always prefer removable batteries, and SD card slots. But on a unibody phone these things are tough to get, and we’re willing to give them up for that lightweight metal casing. On the whole, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is pretty close to perfection. It’s a top end phone with top end performance and specs, and is sure to be a huge seller.
