Samsung released the original Galaxy S6 Edge just half a year ago, but they’re back with a bigger model, the Galaxy S6 Edge +. Since Europe won’t be getting a new Samsung Galaxy Note, the manufacturer have compensated us with a larger Edge, and it’s not a bad deal. There’s a huge screen, tons of power, and some very elegant styling. Are Samsung back at the top of their game? With the Galaxy S6 Edge + they could well be.
What’s to look forward to? Lots. There’s that curved big screen, for a start, and lots and lots of power meaning great performance. And there’s some respectable camera specs as well. Want to buy the best phone on today’s shelves? The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + is going to be a tough competitor to beat.
Samsung phones are always stylish, and the S6 Edge + has slim, sleek lines and elegant curves as well. It’s a metal unibody design, and build quality is excellent, the phone fitting comfortably in the hand despite its size. The screen curves around the long edges of the front panel, meeting a metal rim, and then there’s a glass back plate. In terms of looks, the S6 Edge + has it all.
Looks aside though, there’s lots to love about the S6 Edge +. You’re getting tons of power, with octo core processing and a whole bunch of RAM to play with. There’s a couple of decent cameras thrown into the mix as well, adding up to one stellar phone. Ticket price is expensive, of course, but with specs like these it might be worth the cost.
All in all this is the kind of high end flagship phone that makes us love Samsung. Combine great specs with nice features and an attractive exterior and you’ve got a winner. Even the most demanding users will have to agree that the S6 Edge + is one amazing device.
Before we get down to the business of that screen, let’s take a look at performance specs, and they’re really nothing to sneeze at. You’re getting octo core processing power with two quad core CPUs on board (a 2.1 GHz model and a 1.5 GHz model). You’ll also get a massive 4 GB of RAM, as opposed to the 3 GB that the original S6 Edge had. That adds up to super fast speeds and amazing responsiveness, as you expect.
As you’d also expect from Samsung, this is an Android phone. It runs the newest Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, giving you great security, more stability and more features, as well as the intuitive interface and customisation options the OS is famous for. We’re special fans of the profile mode that let’s you keep separate personal and business profiles on the same phone.
If you’re looking for top notch performance then you won’t be disappointed here. The S6 Edge + really has it all, and can handle whatever you throw at it and still ask for more.
Alrighty, that screen is obviously going to be a major selling point. The Edge is basically an extension of the main screen that curves around the long sides of the phone. You can use it to display newsfeeds, calling info, alarms, whatever you like. But it also works as a control panel for things like the media player or camera, leaving your main screen free for the important stuff. Size wise this is a big 5.7 inch device, so whilst typing is easy and viewing is awesome, using the S6 Edge + one handed isn’t really an option.
Display specs are pretty impressive too. The S6 Edge + has 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, giving around 518 PPI, and it’s also a Samsung signature Super AMOLED display as well. For you that means a display that’s sharp and clear, and one that has superb colour reproduction as well. Viewing on the S6 Edge + is an absolute dream.
From high end picture editing to HD video and the latest in mobile gaming, the display on the S6 Edge + really is a stunner. It will be difficult to find a screen that beats this one, and it’s a strong contender for the best display we’ve seen.
Okay, so Samsung aren’t famous for their cameras, but the S6 Edge + actually has some very decent cams on board, though they’re not the highest resolution that we’ve seen. At the front you’re looking at a 5 MP device, which is pretty good for the odd selfie or for video calling.
At the back there’s a 16 MP camera, which isn’t quite as high as some of the 20 MP or so cams that we’re seeing these days, but it’s still solid. The S6 Edge + does also have an f1.9 aperture for more light, so low light photos are especially good here. There’s some good extras too, including LED flash, optical image stabilisation, auto focus, face recognition, and even an option to live stream to YouTube as well.
Pro snappers might not be completely satisfied here, but amateurs will find that the S6 Edge + takes some great pictures.
Special feature wise the S6 Edge + doesn’t offer much that the original S6 Edge didn’t, though the original was pretty cool. You get the same heart rate monitor, as well as the same fingerprint scanner (which thankfully is press to scan not swipe to scan, so it’s reliable and easy to use).
Wireless charging is included, so you don’t need to keep your mobile connected to a cable to charge, which is always nice. And you get NFC capability as well, which is important these days with more and more digital payment services launching.
Finally, there’s a camera feature that’s worth mentioning. Press the home button twice from any screen and the camera app will open in less than a second. This quick launch ability means that it’s easy to take pics in a hurry.

Demanding shoppers take heed: this could be the best phone of the year. Combining awesome power specs with awesome screen specs and awesome design makes the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + well, awesome. You’ll be getting a real top end phone that isn’t going to disappoint.
Connectivity is more or less what you’d expect, with WiFi, 3G, 4G and Bluetooth. But because of the unibody design there’s no removable back panel, and that means no expandable storage. The S6 Edge + does not have an SD card slot, but with 64 GB of internal storage on this model that shouldn’t be too big a deal.
What about complaints? We don’t really have any. We’d prefer an SD card slot and a removable battery, but we’re willing to give them up for unibody build. Other than that, we think this is pretty close to perfection. If you want the best of the best, then you really need to check out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +, it’s a stunning phone and it’s a buy you won’t regret!
