About the Galaxy S7

Samsung has been at the top of the market for some time now, and some would argue that their flagships are beginning to be same old, same old. A new Galaxy release means more power, bigger screens, and more cool tech. However, the new Galaxy S7, while it does offer all those things, is more than just a collection of great specs. It’s a amazing device, one that’s capable of almost anything, and one that’s sure to be at the top of best-seller lists the second it launches.

Why should you want to but a Galaxy S7? Those new camera specs are pretty impressive, and more processing power means more speed. But as we’ve come to expect from Samsung, it’s the phone’s display that’s the real crowning glory. Yes, you’re going to be spending a hefty chunk of change here, but if you want the best, you’ve got to pay the price, and the Galaxy S7 is undoubtedly the best mobile option available right now.

Key Features on the Samsung Galaxy S7

Alright, we’ll be honest, in looks, the S7 is barely distinguishable from the S6, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Why fix what’s not broken? Lines are slim, angles are rounded, and there’s a real premium feel to the glass front and back panels. One small change is that that back panel is now slightly curved, letting it fit better and more securely in hand.

All those good looks aside, there are some very impressive specs to the S7. Tonnes of processing power, Quad HD screen specs, excellent cameras, plenty of RAM, the list could go on. You’ll be getting some sweet special features too, and of course, the S7 is compatible with Samsung’s new virtual reality tech too.

We’re not talking budget here, this is a top end phone with a high-end price tag, but it’s also got high-end specs to match. Even the most demanding of users will have to agree that performance doesn’t come better than this.

Under the Hood

We’ll start by taking a look at that performance. The S7 has octo core processing power, running two quad-core processors side by side (a 2.15 GHz and a 1.6 GHz model). Add in a simply massive 4 GB of RAM, and you’re looking at one of the fastest phones around. The S7 is responsive, speedy, and excellent at multi-tasking, everything that you could be looking for.

It’s a Samsung Galaxy, so rather obviously you’re running Android, and the S7 is running the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. There’s a whole bunch of new features in Marshmallow, probably the most impressive of which is the Doze facility that dramatically increases battery life, and that’s always good news.

Performance on the Galaxy S7 is faultless. No lag, no freezing, just fast, responsive action. No matter what you need to do on your mobile, the S7 is going to do it, making it perfect for even hardcore mobile users.

On Screen

Moving on to the display, and you’re getting a 5.1 inch always on display. That’s plenty of screen real estate for you, and typing is easy and comfortable, which is always an important factor. That always on spec means that even when your phone is sleeping, you still have a clock, the date and important notifications on screen, so you don’t need to waste battery power waking your phone up to see if you missed a call.

Resolution wise we’re talking Quad HD, with 1440 x 2560 pixels, working out to be around 577 PPI. This makes for a sharp, clear picture, however, the fact that this is a signature Samsung Super AMOLED display means you’re also getting excellent colour reproduction and good depth to images as well.

This screen is quite simply second to none. We expect great displays from Samsung, and the S7 doesn’t disappoint. From HD movies to top end gaming, the S7’s screen is a pleasure to behold.

Camera Specs

Samsung tends to make decent cameras, but those on the S7 are some of the best we’ve seen yet from the manufacturer. At the front, you’re looking at a 5 MP selfie cam, which is not bad for video calling and the like, but the action is around the back.

Okay, brace yourselves. The rear camera on the S7 is a 12 MP cam. That doesn’t sound impressive until you realise that there’s also a f/1.7 aperture and increased 1.4 um pixel size. Don’t like technical jargon? No matter, the result of all this is excellent, crisp, perfect photos, even in low light. Plus, of course, you get all the standard bells and whistles, including LED flash, phase detection autofocus, panorama mode, and the ability to shoot 4K video and 9 MP images simultaneously (i.e. you can take video and a photo at the same time).

Even pro photographers are going to be loving this camera set, it snaps some of the best shots around. And if you’re not a pro, not to worry, because it’s almost impossible to take a bad picture with the S7.

Special Features

This is a top end phone, so you can expect tonnes of extra features, too many for us to mention here. But there are a few that you should be aware of. First up, the Galaxy S7 is waterproof and dustproof, always useful just in case you drop your device.

A 3000 mAh battery gives incredible battery life, easily able to last an entire day of regular use. And if that battery does get low, there’s Quick Charge 2.0 charging, giving you a 60% charge in just thirty minutes. Oh, and you get wireless charging too, should you want to use it.

Finally, the S7 is one of the first phones on the market to feature water cooling. There is, quite literally, water flowing through the middle of the phone to keep temperatures low when you’re performing CPU intensive tasks (such as video gaming), so you don’t need to worry about overheating.

Galaxy S7 Review

Top end phones are a big investment, and it can be tough to justify spending a huge amount of money on a mobile. However, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is probably the best device available right now, with tons of power, great cameras, and excellent performance. This is everything that you’ve been looking for in a phone, and then some!

You’re getting the normal connectivity options, so that means WiFi, 3G, 4G and Bluetooth. There are both 32 GB and 64 GB internal memory versions available. However, Samsung have included an SD card slot, so you can add up to 200 GB of extra storage should you need it.

Bottom line time, was there anything we didn’t like? Um… no. Not really. Performance on the S7 was just amazing. Interestingly, Samsung did not include USB-Type C charging with its faster battery charge times, but that’s probably good news for most of us, since it means you can use your regular micro USB charger. On the whole, the Galaxy S7 is as close to perfect as a phone gets right now, and this is going to be an investment that you’re not going to regret!
